As we move into these last few weeks of school, it makes me think of where we were as we launched this ‘21-22 school year at AVA. In the fall of this school year, after 2 prior years of significant mitigation protocols that impacted how we do education, it was exciting to be launching a more normal school year. As we prepared to move away from survival mode and resume more normal practices, the question became, how do we do that?
One of the ways that we launched this school year was with hope. We knew that even though there would still be obstacles, we had experience in what we were facing and understanding about how to best move forward. The truth is, there was so much hope for just some normalcy this school year.
As we started to consider some of the “normal things” that we were not able to do the previous year, we were excited to be able to resume so many of those “normal things”. Each day, staff and students could focus on being grateful for things like being able to take field trips, resuming ability grouping, completing inter-class and inter-grade level projects, and on and on! Taking the time to focus on gratitude both for us and for students helped everyone to lift their spirits and to heal.
As the weather becomes warmer and the grass greener, let’s continue to focus on hope and gratitude as we move into these last few weeks of school. There are so many things to look forward to!

Red Rocks Counseling presents SCREEN SANITY
We are the first ever generation of parents trying to figure out how to raise children in a technology-driven society. Red Rocks Counseling has partnered with non-profit, Screen Sanity, to bring parents a thought-provoking, informative, and entertaining FREE 60-minute webinar about digital health at 7pm MST on Wednesday evening, May 11th.
Screen Sanity will unpack expert-guided content about everything from ways to manage screen time to age-appropriately educating our kids and teens about web-based pornography. This program is designed for adults only, but offers practical ways to engage with your kids (from toddlers to teenagers) on these topics.
The webinar will be recorded and sent to registered participants afterwards. Red Rocks Counseling will also be offering optional follow-up small group support sessions to help parents process their personal experiences and situations, communicate about and implement screen wellness strategies with their family.

Welcome to another school year at Aspen View Academy. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities so keep a look out for Sign-up Genius', Newsletter announcements and emails from the PTO. Below is an excerpt from the AVA Handbook.
VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT – AVA believes that the success of each student will be a shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, staff, and community leaders. Volunteers enhance the school and its culture and character through their involvement. Accordingly, a strong family involvement program will be implemented. AVA expects 30 volunteer hours per family per school year. Single-parent families are expected to volunteer 15 hours per school year. The volunteer school year shall coincide with AVA’s fiscal year, and hours shall accrue from July 1 through June 30. If your family has special circumstances that make it difficult for you to meet the expected volunteer hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Many volunteer opportunities exist within AVA’s PTO. The PTO is an organization comprised of parent volunteers for the purpose of providing community support, fundraising and planning various events within our school community.
Pre-registration is required prior to volunteering. Please visit the Raptor Volunteer site, as this only needs to be completed one time. Once completed we will need you to bring your ID in to scan and link to your profile.
These volunteer opportunities can also be found on the volunteer page of our website.
