If you have a child’s heart, you have a child’s mind. Over the past couple of months we’ve heard about the Capturing Kids Hearts model and the four H’s: heart, head, hands and habits. In a nutshell, it’s all about building relationships. We have the pleasure of spending about 7½ hours with your student. About ⅓ of the day. From the moment your student arrives at Aspen View Academy, they are embraced with smiles, words of encouragement and staff that are beyond happy to share their hearts with them.
As the year progresses, and relationships grow, we see a change in the students and how they interact with others here at AVA. From the moment they come across the crosswalk in front of the school, or get out of their car at morning drop off, students have a little more pep in their step and appear happy to enter the school. Students have smiles on their faces in the hallways and classrooms. They are more respectful when interacting with their peers. Engagement in the classroom tends to increase. We start to see negative behaviors and discipline on the decline. They are happy and have smiles on their faces at dismissal (I’m assuming it’s because they can’t wait to come back to school the next day!).
As the student grows, so does their heart. Metaphorically speaking, as our school grows, so does it’s heart. With the addition taking place in front of the school, and the new gym addition and performing stage on the back of the school, we are giving our students more programming and curriculum opportunities. Opportunities to succeed inside the classroom, as well as outside. It shows the students that our heart is invested in them and their success.
To be able to provide for our students and to be able to give back to them. To build relationships. All of this is because we have captured the students’ hearts. And the students have captured our hearts.

Mr. Tony Lamb, M.Ed.
Assistant Principal, Grades 6-8

Announcements
We are seeing an increase in the number of tardy students in the morning.

For Middle School Students, If your child arrives in the building after 7:58am they will be marked tardy (they should be in their seats by 8:00).

For Elementary Students, If your child arrives in the building after 8:12am they will be marked tardy (they should be in their seats by 8:15).

Parents, Please remember if your student is arriving late to school from a doctor's appointment, they will need to show a note from the doctor for this to count as an excused tardy, otherwise it will be marked as an unexcused tardy.

It is important to have kids in class and ready to go. Classes begin at 8:00am for MS and 8:15am for Elementary and having students arrive to class tardy is a distraction that can easily be avoided.

A reminder from the handbook:
Students who accumulate five or more tardies in a month will lose dress of choice privileges.

Thank you for making Aspen View Academy the best school!

Volunteer Corner
Welcome to another school year at Aspen View Academy. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities so keep a look out for Sign-up Genius', Newsletter announcements and emails from the PTO. Below is an excerpt from the AVA Handbook.

VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT – AVA believes that the success of each student will be a shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, staff, and community leaders. Volunteers enhance the school and its culture and character through their involvement. Accordingly, a strong family involvement program will be implemented. AVA expects 30 volunteer hours per family per school year. Single-parent families are expected to volunteer 15 hours per school year. The volunteer school year shall coincide with AVA’s fiscal year, and hours shall accrue from July 1 through June 30. If your family has special circumstances that make it difficult for you to meet the expected volunteer hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Many volunteer opportunities exist within AVA’s PTO. The PTO is an organization comprised of parent volunteers for the purpose of providing community support, fundraising and planning various events within our school community.

Pre-registration is required prior to volunteering. Please visit the Raptor Volunteer site, as this only needs to be completed one time. Once completed we will need you to bring your ID in to scan and link to your profile.

To log volunteer hours, please visit the Volunteer Portal.

These volunteer opportunities can also be found on the volunteer page of our website.
