A Message From The Principal
Apple Awards

Who has the best teachers in the Douglas County School District? The answer is easy; Aspen View Academy does. I truly believe that we have a highly dedicated group of teachers that go above and beyond everyday to make sure your kids are educated in a safe and caring environment where they feel comfortable and confident to take chances. They have established high expectations for all students and provide all the tools necessary for the students to accomplish these expectations. Of course, our success is not complete without the tremendous efforts of our support personnel, which includes the office staff, custodial staff, lunchroom staff and our PARAs. I know that the AVA parent community appreciates our teachers and staff and demonstrate that in many different ways. There is a formal opportunity to show your appreciation – the DCSD Apple Awards.

The Apple Awards were created in 2006 to provide the opportunity to recognize and celebrate excellent, innovative teachers, administrators, and support staff. Nominations for the Apple Awards are submitted online by staff, students, parents and members of the community.  You may nominate more than one person. Nominations must be made using the online form, no exceptions. The nomination window is open now through December 20th.

We hope you'll click on this link to access the DCSD Apple Award Home Page. Then click on nominate an outstanding DCSD Educator or Staff Member and scroll down to find Aspen View Academy. The nomination window closes on Dec. 20th, - please nominate your favorite AVA teachers and staff for these prestigious awards.

Mask/Face Covering guidance while on AVA property

We are all working hard to ensure every reasonable health and safety measure is followed to keep AVA open to in-person learning and allow our students to come to school. As we are seeing large spikes in people testing positive for COVID-19, we must be extra vigilant to keep everyone safe.

We have identified an area where we can up our game in order to be safer. During carpool we are seeing groups of parents/guardians gathering and interacting without masks or face shields. We completely understand the desire to socialize and we know social distancing is tough during carpool, but we can improve safety and health by wearing a face covering.

We are asking parents/guardians to please wear a face covering while on AVA property during arrival and dismissal. There is no requirement to wear a mask or face shield while in your vehicle.

Thank you for your assistance with this as we try to keep AVA open to in-person learning as long as the safety and health data show it is safe to do so.
Picture Retake Day has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 13th. In Person learners who need retakes will be photographed in the main school building and eLearners that were not photographed in Aug/Sept will be photographed in the B.A.S.E. building (light grey building closest to the parking lot).

eLearners will need to be signed up here to schedule a time (one student per sign up). These are the pictures that will be in the yearbook, so please have your child photographed even if you are not ordering. Your student must be in their AVA uniform.

Please DO NOT sign up for a time if your student is an in-person learner.

Click here for the online order form. Please stop by the office if you would like a hard copy of the order form.

The Lost and Found is temporarily in the main office lobby if you'd like to come search for items. It is full and unclaimed items will be donated soon.
Do you ever wonder what challenges your child will face when they get to middle school or high school? Or, once they are there, wonder how to help them through it? Peer pressure, social media and cultural changes have changed the landscape of childhood and adolescence dramatically in the past two decades. Nick Thompson is an expert in helping parents understand and navigate this landscape. His presentation is insightful, funny and very relevant to parents with questions about how to best help their kids with appropriate boundaries and helpful parenting strategies. His presentation on Thursday evening from 6:30pm-8:00pm is a must watch event!
It is time to help raise money for the American Heart Association with the Kids Heart Challenge. Every year the Aspen View Academy elementary students do an awesome job raising money. Last year students raised over $5,000 and we hope to raise even more this year. We sent home the envelopes and information this week. If you have any questions, please have your student ask Ms. Damm, the elementary PE teacher, or email kdamm@aspenviewacademy.org. Also, you can visit the website, heart.org/KHC to sign up and for more information.

Middle School Sports
Middle School Sports

Due to the concern for the safety of our students, and following CHSAA guidelines, all middle school sports will be put on pause until January. We are currently in the process of reformatting seasons, so we can have an opportunity to still participate in all sports that AVA typically offers. If your student is interested in participating in a sport in the spring, please consider turning in their sports physical now, to avoid the rush.

If you have any questions please contact Lindsay Alguire at lalguire@aspenviewacademy.org.
