Spring Has Sprung
Even in the midst of a pandemic, spring has sprung in our area! And as spring arrives, your pet may be suffering from allergies! These allergies can cause itchy inflamed skin, crusty spots, red uncomfortable ears, excessive hair loss, licking of paws and skin infection.
Treating these problems early avoids undue suffering for your pet. We have many options for helping your pet that are non-steroidal and effective!
- Cytopoint® - a safe, effective, long-lasting treatment for chronic itch due to allergic or atopic dermatitis. It is an injection that targets itch at its source. A single Cytopoint injection helps relieve chronic dog itch for up to 8 weeks, making the treatment of allergic skin condition easier for you to manage. (Cytopoint website)
- Apoquel® - a daily oral tablet that starts providing itch relief within 4 hours by disrupting the itch and inflammation pathway. (Apoquel website)
- Medicated bath treatment (TRIZCHLOR - in clinic and at home)
- Antibiotics
And, if needed, shorter acting and safer steroid injections to bring that itchy skin and those inflamed ears under control.
These are just a few of the treatments available at AVAC. Please call us today and bring your pet to see us for evaluation of this uncomfortable problem. (Curbside pick up and delivery offered while you wait for most procedures. Call (205-967-7383 when you arrive.)
Remember to give monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives. Fleas, of course, are a huge “itchy” problem, too. Mosquitoes have also returned (did they ever leave??) and with them the threat of heartworm infection! It is SO important to protect our furry loved ones from this disease!
All of our preventive medications are available curbside or order from our
website for home delivery!
Stay safe, stay calm, stay informed...and remember to
WASH YOU PAWS AND COVER YOUR SNOUT!!
