Thursday, June 16
The General Assembly of the PCA denomination is being held in Birmingham this year, June 21-24, and our Presbytery (Evangel) is hosting. Volunteers are needed from every church and there are a number of ways in which you can help. To view serving opportunities, or to sign up, follow THIS LINK. Also, did you know that there are numerous activities planned for women, children and families? A complete schedule of the conference can be found: HERE. Note that visitors are invited to join the worship services on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Service times vary so check the schedule.
Some have expressed interest in the past in the overtures that come before our annual denomination, referred to as the General Assembly. An overture is simply a request for action that some member of our denomination or a court of our church thinks the General Assembly should take. That Assembly will take place here in Birmingham on June 21-24. If you are interested, you can check out these overtures by following THIS LINK.
Join us Saturday June 25 6:30 – 8:00 pm for dinner, dessert, and yard games at Altadena Park. The Outreach Team is hosting Picnics at the Park to help us connect with our community through the park. Enjoy fun with your friends and family while engaging with our neighbors. We plan to host 4 of these through the summer on the 4th Saturday evening of the month.
Please remember Barry Parker’s family as they grieve the loss of his mother, Mary Parker, who went home to be with Jesus Wednesday June 15. She was 95 years old. Services for Mary will be at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville Monday June 20. Visitation begins 9:00 am and the service commences at 10:00. There will also be a time of visitation after the funeral at Barry and Lea Anne’s home beginning at 12 noon at 4725 Old Looney Mill Road.
Are you thinking about church membership at Altadena? Come to our next Membership Event, Friday, July 15. Attendance at this or another weekend offered throughout the year is required for church membership. Visit the Events tab of the church website, email Christine ( or call the church office to register and request childcare. Deadline to register is July 10.
Over the next 5-6 weeks, we have a unique opportunity to serve our church body, as there is a gap between our former facilities manager, Jody Fredrickson, and the new facilities manager, David Mayhew.

The Facilities Team (Al Foster, Josh Putman, and Bill Sommer) calls for the aid of the men of our church to fill this gap.

Each Saturday morning over the next 5-6 weeks, we will have several small maintenance projects around the church. A Signup such as this will go out several days prior to enlist volunteers.

The projects are able to be completed between 7-10am in order to finish the work in a timely manner without taking the bulk of anyone's Saturday.

Click HERE to see the list of the projects for this Saturday and to sign up.

On behalf of the Facilities Team and church staff, Thank you!
AVPC is now accepting applications for the Girls Discipleship Director position. A complete job description and application can be found on our website, HERE. Refer anyone you think may be interested in this position to the website. Application deadline is July 10.
The women of Altadena will be hosting a baby shower on July 18, at 7:00 PM, at the home of Lynn Bratton. This shower will be honoring Heather Prettyman and Abi Bostrom.
You can contribute online through CCB, by using THIS LINK, or in the collection envelope in your Sunday school class. Please designate ‘baby shower’ in the memo line of your check.
After interviewing several well-qualified candidates, the committee is pleased to welcome David Mayhew as our new facilities manager. David will officially begin his duties in mid-July. Please pray for David during this transition period and offer a word of congratulations and encouragement to him when you see him.
A unique thing will be happening during the summer Sunday School quarter at AVPC. On the last Sunday of each month, which also happens to be communion Sunday, all the adults will gather in Fellowship Hall for a brunch and fellowship time. So much has happened during the past two plus years of COVID, and the leaders of AVPC feel the need to set aside some times dedicated to being together as a church family. Each Sunday will feature some general mingling time around a delicious brunch, as well as some special events designed to strengthen our fellowship as a church. During the remaining ten weeks of the summer quarter, we will have our normal Sunday School classes, which are as follows:

Pilgrim’s Class – Dan Dougherty, James Walls and Barry Parker will co-teach this class, which will focus on various psalms. Each teacher will pick out his favorite psalms and teach on those during his week.

Fellowship Hall Class – This class will continue our emphasis this summer on “A Theology of Work.” Andy Coats, Paul Barber, John Wimberly and Luis Orteza will teach various aspects of this important and relevant topic.

Acton Hall Class – This class will focus its attention on questions 1-29 of the Westminster Larger Catechism. This rich and ancient resource assists us in our spiritual formation, that we might resist a world that is desperately trying to form us according to its image instead of the image of Christ. This class will be team-taught by Michael MacCaughelty, Brent McClenny and Scott Wilson.

Young Adult Class – Blake Harris will continue to provide leadership for this class, in a topic to be announced shortly. The Young Adult Class meets in the Mezzanine Room (above the church kitchen).
Would you be willing to share the love of Jesus with our 4, 5, and 6 year olds this summer during either late or early service? The time commitment is 40 minutes. Contact Catie ( to join in this children’s ministry adventure.
Every great mystery needs a great detective to tackle it, tame it, and reveal the truth. Join us this summer as WACK welcomes the greatest detective of all time, the hero of countless books and movies! (Wait… We didn’t actually get that guy did we? Really? All right then!)

Come help us explore what God, worship, and mysteries all have in common with one another. Will you find the clues and deduce the answers like a true Sherlock, or will you stumble across the answers by sheer-luck? Either way, get ready for a fun-filled adventure that will surely be something to write Holmes about!

Registrations are now open for this year’s WACK week, July 5-8. Grab a pamphlet from the Welcome Center or Parlor or you can register on our website, HERE
