Come rehearse a classic hymn anthem (“Wonderful Grace of Jesus”) in the choir room this Sunday from 10:40 – 10:55 AM, then sing that anthem with the choir in the LATE SERVICE. (Note: the choir will exit the choir loft before the sermon so that singers can sit with the congregation for the sermon. Or people attending the early service can stick around to sing the late service anthem, then go home after the choir sings.) You don’t have to sign up. JUST SHOW UP THAT MORNING! Music links are provided on the church website ( if you want to learn your music in advance on your own.

For the next five weeks, we will be focusing on outreach in our worship services. Each of our pastoral staff will be preaching from a passage related to outreach. Please pray with us that the Spirit compels us to marvel again at our great salvation and propels us to love those in our lives who don’t yet know our Savior Jesus.
We are delighted to welcome Callen Moyer as our new Girl’s Discipleship Director. Callen has served as a youth intern so we believe the Lord will continue to use her as she counsels, encourages, and disciples the young women of AVPC. Callen’s first day was August 1 so be sure to welcome her aboard and pray for her as the Lord leads her.
AVPC members may submit names of men they believe meet the qualifications set forth in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 for the offices of Elder and Deacon. Guidelines and nomination forms can be found in the Parlor and Welcome Center, or on the church website, CLICK HERE. You can electronically nominate someone via this same link. You can drop your printed nomination form in the offering plate or turn it in to the church office. This Sunday is the deadline for officer submissions. Call the church office if you have any questions.
Join us Saturday, August 27, 6:30 – 8:00 PM for dinner, dessert, and yard games at Altadena Park. The Outreach Team is hosting Picnic at the Park to help us connect with our community through the park. Enjoy fun with your friends and family while engaging with our neighbors. We will have just one more of these events in September, so plan now to attend these last two fun events.
The Prayer Ministry Team would like to encourage you in your prayer life, both personally and corporately, and are inviting you to join others who gather during both morning worship services, to pray for the service as it is being held. You can choose which service you would like to pray for, and how often. This is a great chance to be involved in the life of our church, in a very non-threatening, welcoming environment. Whether you are praying silently or aloud is not important – the desire is to move us towards having a culture of prayer at AVPC. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Steve Barley at, or call the church offices.
Please consider joining your sisters in Bible Study this fall. We offer two study times. We meet on Monday afternoons at the home of Wendy Allison from 3-4:30 and on Wednesday mornings in the church parlor from 9-11 AM. There is childcare for all ages offered Wednesday mornings, including supervision for homeschool work. This study time is an opportunity to get to know God better through His word and, get to know women who are a part of the body! We will be studying the book of Ecclesiastes, considering what brings meaning to our lives, a pertinent topic in this ever changing world. Study guides will be available for purchase for $9.00 in the church parlor in August.
Save the date for the next men’s retreat on October 7-8 at Camp Chula Vista. Registration begins September 6 and closes September 30. Come join in on a weekend of relaxation and growing in the Lord together. If you have any questions you can contact Blake Harris at
Geared towards men of any age, this group meets every Thursday at 9 AM in the Conference Room for coffee, a sweet treat, and conversations about life. All are welcome - drop by anytime.
Both early and late services are mask-optional in the Sanctuary; seating in the Parlor is social distanced and mask-required for the early service.
