Bringing Change to Political Art and Science
Drones, and I’m not talking about those in Congress who can’t seem to pass a budget. No, I’m talking about cheap swarms of small pilotless aerial vehicles changing the nature of modern warfare in Ukraine. So called first-person-view drones (FPVs) loaded with explosives are halting both sides in a war, locking forces in stasis, and denying maneuver. FPVs are flown to the target by a pilot using a map, a computer screen, and human skill. GPS, space targeting, and AI assistance are nice but not necessary targeting attributes.

Accurate, networked, omnipresent and flown by tiny teams – these instruments of war have upset the institutional practices of militaries, the economy of defense spending, and the balance between costs and benefits in the tactics of war. A senior operational commander comments, “Quantities matter, mass matters.” Old lessons learned. Losses mount, lives are lost, and governments and voters grow understandably restive. | | |
|
Hmmm – where am I going with this excursion? Seemingly immutable institutional answers and historical practices are being disrupted by innovation, networks, data, common cause, and courage. Sounds exactly like American Veterans Vote!
Some numbers:
- UAW union members – 150K
- Teacher union members – NEA (3M), AFT (1.7M);
- Virginia members – 40K
- AFCIO union members – 12M
- American Veterans (not counting family members) – 20M.
- Virginia Veterans according to VA – 710K
- Voting Veterans in Virginia – 442K;
- Non-voting Veterans – 268K (710K-442K)
Some reality:
With the help of American Veterans Vote (AVV), Veterans vote at a 67% rate compared to all other voters who vote at an average 55% rate. And, while Veterans are spirited and not like minded in politics, they all swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution; they all understand that unity, teamwork, and leadership can deliver decisive results; and they all were taught to favor action over inaction in the face of a challenge (YES, Drill Sergeant!).
AVV is poised to be the small, committed force, able to disrupt institutional practices and conventional beliefs by targeting Veteran votes at slim margins in swing districts and key races. Low cost, networked action, common purpose, with the courage of our convictions. What’s not to love. Every Veteran, Every Vote and, to add, Every Election. But, of course, so much work is left to be done.
AVV data work is complete using publicly available data. We know who has and has not voted over the last 4 elections. And we know which races and precincts most need Veteran votes to potentially determine outcomes at the margin, between winner and loser. Our endorsements are sound. Our endorsed candidates are selected and the competition for votes is on. Electioneering is fully underway. But tactics and practices and the election battlefield realities have changed.

|
Absentee and early voting numbers are building now and, if past is prelude to the future, election outcomes will likely be determined more by early votes than votes on election day. WE NEED ALL VETERANS TO REGISTER, SIGN UP FOR ABSENTEE VOTING OR VOTE EARLY, AND CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING FOR OUR ENDORSED CANDIDATES.
Don’t get lost in the bombast of political arguments. AVV must remain focused on winning elections, not winning arguments. Change will only happen through the ballot box. Magnify our numbers (550 members, 16K subscribers, 442K Vet voters, but 268K Vet voters on the sidelines) through your individual actions.

Please consider joining AVV. And AVV has the materials needed to help prompt our collective actions. Tell your candidate to contact AVV (reagan@amercianveteransvote.com) We have the numbers, the data, the contacts, and the will to make it more about teamwork than dollars, tech, or talk.
We will continue to build our membership and arm them with solid information, a vibrant network, and both media and message to produce broad political outcomes beyond conventional organizations and practices! Our redesigned website coming soon is designed to network, inform, and assist AAV members with the tools and data necessary to help win these close elections where relatively small numbers at the margin really count.
FPVs are bringing change to military art and science – who thought it possible?
AVV is bringing change to political art and science – the possibility is real and near!

One of the beautiful things about the American Veterans Vote organization is that we as a group do not speak for Veterans, we speak as Veterans…and with that:
As a Veteran I know the power of FAITH.
Without faith in God our Creator, there could be no “self-evident truths,” no inalienable rights such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
As a Veteran I know the power of EDUCATION.
That is where we obtain the ability to reason…to discern fact from fiction…possibly to even gain wisdom.
As a Veteran I know the power of FAMILY
Family is the foundational government upon which all other governmental levels are built.
As a Veteran I know the power of our CONSTITUTION.
It was established by we the people, in order to form a more perfect union.
As a Veteran, I know all these things have been and are under attack, so I know that I, my fellow Veterans, and all citizens who love our nation, must fight and pray for justice, domestic tranquility, our common defense and the general welfare of our citizens.
How do we fight back? First, of course, by praying, then by interacting with our chosen leadership…and by VOTING!
