Election Day approaches and it’s all hands on deck. We are fortunate to have Governor Youngkin, all-in, supporting a great list of our endorsed candidates who support AVV goals and stand strongly in support of Veterans and their families. We all understand the positive impact of good leadership. We also understand the power of teamwork in times of stress. Governor Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor Sears, and Adjutant General Miyares have been Everywhere – crisscrossing the Commonwealth encouraging early voting and maximum turnout.

Their target? The 500,000 + voters who skipped voting in Virginia last year!

Our target? 85,000+ Veteran Voters who skipped voting in Virginia last year!

The 2023 election is the year to flex the power of the Veteran Vote. Here’s why:

1. The last elections where both Virginia Senate and House seats were contested was in 2019. Recall our goal this year is to flip the Senate and hold the House. In 2019, 116,000+ or over 42% of Veterans did not vote. Both Houses flipped.

2. We’ve got reports from the state registrars indicating a LIGHT turn out at polls in early voting for both parties. This indicates a low turnout election overall where the margin between winning and losing will be even tighter!

3. We have President Biden’s absent, unaccountable leadership, escalating national security challenges, declines in every educational metric, borders out of control, parents excluded from their children’s education, and a sick economy.

4. We see Israel mobilize to respond to the vicious terrorist attack on 7 October. We learn more about the 80+ attacks on US forces by Iran’s proxy agents. We know recruiting woes, foresee deployments, and understand family issues.

Now, more than ever, our Veteran votes can make a critical difference. We must continue our efforts to encourage early voting, support our endorsed candidates, and broaden our own influence. Each One, Reach One. Get a fellow Veteran(s) to the polls.

My sincere compliments and thanks to all those in AVV who have diligently helped in our mission to mobilize the power of Veterans and Veteran Supporters for this election.

There are “Pointers” and “Doers” in any endeavor. I am constantly amazed at the “Doers” in AVV. It’s not the salary ($0)! It’s dedication and concern for our Nation. Our vision remains steadfast – To win elections and promote change at local, state, and national level by delivering Every Veteran, Every Vote to promote change through the ballot box.

Pray Up and Vote

During this past week we saw a new Speaker of the House elected. It was noteworthy that his first act was to get the body to pray…and then I was reminded of two verses our nation, and certainly our Veterans should keep in mind:

2Chron7:14 states, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

The brother of Jesus writes in James 4:1-3, “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives…”

I’m guilty of too often placing prayer last instead of first. I’m guilty of desires that “kill” from the standpoint of relationships. I’m certainly guilty of coveting. I fail to ask God with the right motive. So, I pray for myself, for you, our nation and its leaders as we approach Election Day. As Veterans we know how precious our Constitution and nation are, after all, we put our lives on the line for it. Let us approach those ballot boxes “prayed up,” with the right motives and behavior, having already sought counsel from God.
