Final Notice of Chamber Board Openings

The Nominating Committee of your Chamber is in the process of drafting a slate of Board of Directors candidates to be approved at the October board meeting. Board terms are three-year commitments and board members are eligible to serve up to two consecutive terms, but must be re-elected to the second term. Five board members’ terms expire this December.

Should any Chamber member in good standing wish to submit their name or that of another individual for one of these board positions, please contact AWACC Executive Director David Reid by 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10.

2022 Vision Oregon Event

Oregon Business & Industry's second annual Vision Oregon event will take place Oct. 19 at the Portland Art Museum. At the event, OBI will present its highest honor, the Oregon Visionary Award. The event also will feature a moderated panel discussion with business leaders in three key Oregon sectors. The panel will discuss challenges and opportunities that come with doing business in Oregon and globally, how they navigate those, and their visions for 2023 and beyond.

October 19 is U.S. Support Your Local Chamber Day, and OBI has provided a special ticket code for members of chambers that allows you to get the OBI member ticket price, even if you are not OBI members. When you register for the event, just enter “Chamber” as a registration code. This is good for up to 15 people from each local chamber.

Learn more and register here.

Great Columbia Crossing Event is on Sunday, October 9

We are thrilled to bring this event back to the Astoria-Megler Bridge, and hope that you will be able to join us on October 9th as a participant, sponsor or volunteer! Visit greatcolumbiacrossing.com more information about the event.

We still have several  volunteer shifts we need to fill including packet pickup October 7-8th and several positions on race morning itself. Want to help us out? You can sign up now to Volunteer.

To improve security and enhance the experience for participants, the entire bridge will be closed to vehicles during the event, from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Your patience on race morning is greatly appreciated while traffic on and around the Astoria-Megler Bridge is affected. There will be heavy traffic in this area beginning by 6 a.m. as participants arrive for the event. Shuttle buses to the starting area begin operating at 6:30 a.m. creating a steady flow of vehicles on the bridge. At 8:30 a.m., the Oregon Department of Transportation will close the bridge to all but emergency vehicles. Traffic flow should be back to normal shortly after 11:00 a.m. when the participants are cleared from the bridge.  Vehicles will be dispersed and directed away from the bridge during the 2.5-hour event closure.

Will you be open early on Sunday? Let us know so we can send folks your way!

LCPS seeks stories of haunted Astoria homes

Are you haunted by specters or unexplained noises in your Astoria home? The Lower Columbia Preservation Society wants to hear from you! Curiosity about your home's history could uncover some ghostly tales of Astoria's past.  Submit an address and brief account of your supernatural experiences to lcpsociety.org/haunted. LCPS staff and volunteers will dig into local archives and see if

historic events associated with the property could provide clues to the disturbances. Then, in

the spirit of the season, LCPS will pick the top three stories to highlight at their Halloween-themed "Topics in Preservation" event on the evening of Wednesday, October 26th.

Yummy Lu's Moves to Winter Location

Yummy Lu's treat shop opened on Pier 39 this summer. We’re all settled in for a cozy fall and winter inside MESS HALL MARKET on Pier 39 Astoria. We’ll head back to our “home” on the back deck next spring, but for now, walk up (or inside too) and grab a treat or a fun toy. We’re open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Follow us on Facebook to keep up with fun activities happening on the Pier year-round.

Clatsop Beaches Closed to Razor Clamming

The Oregon Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife closed all razor clam harvesting from the Washington border to Cascade Head (just north of Lincoln City). Domoic acid, a marine toxin, is above the human health limit, delaying the opening of the popular Clatsop beaches. Reopening the annual Clatsop beaches razor clam summer conservation closure will occur when two consecutive tests show domoic acid levels are below the human health closure limit.

We know power interruptions are never convenient and greatly appreciate your patience. Sign up for our outage alerts to be notified about power outages in the future.
