Be a Part of the Fisherman’s Market

Big Game Fishing, located at the Hammond Marina, is coordinating a Fisherman’s Market on weekends kicking off Saturday with the start of Buoy 10 fishing season. Vendors are invited to register to set up a booth to sell fishing or boating related goods as part of the market, which will occur from Noon to 4 p.m. (possibly as last as 6 p.m.). We are also looking for food trucks and educational displays or activities.

ODOT Project Update:

Curb Ramps in Astoria in 2025

No matter how you move through the area, we want to make your community more accessible.

One of the ways we’re doing that is by rebuilding or installing over 260 ADA curb ramps in Astoria starting as early as spring 2025. ADA curb ramps make it easier for people to move between the sidewalk and road. This can be helpful for those who have trouble stepping up and down high curbs.

It's also helpful for people using wheelchairs, strollers, walkers, hand carts and bicycles. These ramps make it easier for everyone to get around, whether they have a disability or not.

Curious about what corners we're looking at in Astoria? Visit the project webpage to learn more.

A Central Hub for All Things Biking on the Coast

For the past few years, the Oregon Coast Visitors Association has been actively involved in supporting the creation of three coastal mountain bike trail systems (Klootchy Creek in Seaside, Big Creek in Newport, and Whiskey Run in Coos County), and have sponsored mountain biking events like Ride the Dirt Wave and Mountain Bike Oregon, as a way to elevate mountain biking as a coastal experience for visitors and locals. This year, we have also partnered with Dirty Freehub to scout and map coastal gravel routes, which can be ridden as day trips or as pieces of longer bike-packing trips.

The Oregon Coast Biking homepage launched this month, with sub-pages for fat biking, mountain biking, and gravel. Check out the routes in your region, and stay tuned as we continue to add to these lists, and for the official Oregon Coast Gravel Guidebook, which will be available later this year!

State of the Coast: Call for Sessions

State of the Coast is an annual fall conference hosted by Oregon Sea Grant that covers a wide range of current coastal and marine topics. it will be held at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center in November. Anyone interested in presenting at the conference is invited to submit a session idea! The deadline for submissions has been extended to August 5th. Learn more and submit your ideas here!

Scam Alert: Pacific Power Imposter

The chamber has heard from many local businesses who have received this fraudulent call. Pacific Power reports that their customers are reporting automated and live calls that claim to be from Pacific Power. The scammers threaten to shut off power unless you pay immediately. Another tactic used suggests an error in the payment system. Don’t pay – note the callback number, hang up and call Pacific Power at 1-888-221-7070 to verify. Learn how to spot the tricks scammers use at pacificpower.net/scam.
