Presidents Message

Greetings and Happy New Year!

For those who may not know me, I’m the incoming President of the Artists’ Workshop as of January 1, 2025. I live in Oak Hill, and go back to NH in the hottest days of summer. I’ve been involved for about 10 years at AWI in various roles, from writing grants, to putting on the Annual Members’ Show, to serving as Vice-President on the Board. I’m looking forward to working with the current and new Board members in the coming months as we continue on the path that has been set by our very competent “retiring” President, who is not actually retiring at all! Cheryl will remain as Vice President on the Board, and will also take over a large role as Chair of our Annual NSB Paint-Out!

Artists’ Workshop has been fortunate to be able to transfer this wonderful Paint-Out Event to our own organization exclusively as of 2025, and we are very excited! Our partner, Marine Discovery Center, is focusing their sustainability energy in other ways, and we now have a well-established and respected Paint-Out to shepherd into the future. This offers us a fantastic fund-raising opportunity, as well as a way to continue reaching out to the greater NSB community (and beyond). Through this event we can put AWI in the public eye, potentially building our membership, and adding funds to create and expand programs to meet its needs. We WILL need many volunteers for this event, especially to make everything run smoothly in the fall, so please be open to giving a little of your time when the call goes out!

Finally, I have a hard act to follow after 6+ years of Cheryl’s leadership. I plan to stay true to one thing that she is most proud of from her time as the AWI leader: the simple fact that Artists’ Workshop is a safe and friendly place for all. Whether you are new to us and exploring art for the first time, or an accomplished artist with professional creds, you are welcome here. I hope that you all will come to feel as I do about AWI- this is, in so many ways, “my community.” I welcome you all to our community, and hope you will find the same joy that I do when I’m learning and volunteering at this wonderful place.

Wrap Up 2024

Dear Members,

Thank you to all who attended our 2024 Holiday Luncheon and provided canned goods that were donated to Halifax Urban Ministries. My car was filled to the brim with food and very gratefully accepted by

the volunteers at the food bank! It was a fitting close to a very successful year of “art” activities celebrated at our luncheon. Delicious food, provided by OutRiggers, special desserts by our own Kathy Kerrigan, a stirring tribute put together by Mary Peschel Herlehy and Cheri Erdman about the strong leaders who have kept AWI going since 1958, and of course, the awards for the “Holiday” show at the Canal Street Gallery, made this a truly joyous affair. Besides all of that, the announcement of the new executive board officers was indeed a wonderful moment for me! After my many years as president, Anne Dall will be taking on that leadership role, and I will thankfully, become her “assistant” ! Anne is a woman of many talents, loads of experience and really good ideas. Easy to work with, soft spoken, deliberate and very friendly, I am looking forward to working with her in 2025 and beyond to continue Artists’ Workshop goal of reaching out to and providing experienced artists as well as new comers the opportunity to learn, create and explore all of the positive benefits art can provide in ones life…….and, in a beautiful and warm environment!

Looking forward to 2025!

Wishing you the Best,

Cheryl

Community Outreach Corner

We have added this section to highlight the good we are doing within our community. Our goal is to raise awareness about who AWI is and how we are still after 67 years continuing to serve our communities needs. The above photograph was taken in December to celebrate our partnership with Habitat for Humanity and our project Home is where the HeART is. Each new home owner is invited to visit our studios where they select original art donated by AWI members for their new home. Seen here is Cheryl Faber, AWI President and Shaleena Jackson a new Habitat for Humanity home owner selecting art together.

We're always looking for opportunities to raise awareness and serve our community. So let us know if you have suggestions or would like participate in these efforts.
