Presidents Message

Dear Members

Summer has flown by and I hope everyone had a chance to take a break

from the heat and return refreshed and ready to embrace a packed year of art

activities. Our first membership meeting will be an Open House on Sunday,

September 22 from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Our art instructors will be there to share information about their classes and we'll have more details about upcoming workshops and special events we have planned.

We have become a year round community Art Center, offering adult classes and open studios along with a very successful kids EcoArt summer camp during the period we used to be “mostly” closed. It is all part of our drive to add value to your membership by providing a “joyful” and friendly retreat for any community member to feel comfortable about learning a new skill or honing an existing talent. We are constantly searching for new ways to increase our revenue in order to support ongoing projects like updating our clay department which we did last year and planning a makeover of the Canal Street Gallery, which is in the works. Our biggest sources of income are our membership dues, the NSB Plein Air Paint Out, EcoArt Camp, the Volusia County Grant (which we have been approved for) and now, hopefully,

the State of Florida Cultural Grant, which we for the first time have applied for but is still pending. Classes and workshops also provide income but the point I am hoping to make is that it takes a lot of membership, staff and board support, physically as well as monetarily to have an Art Center we can all feel proud and happy to be a part of. We want to continue to explore new ideas and grow, so we are thankful for your support and look forward to our future together!

See you at the members meeting!

NSB Plein Air Paint Out

Once again, our studios will be home to the 2024 New Smyrna Beach Plein Air Paint Out from Tuesday, October 15 through Saturday, October 19. Twenty talented artists from the Southeast will be arriving to paint the beauty and uniqueness of our wonderful little town. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Artists’ Workshop as well as our partner, Marine Discovery Center. For that reason , I am asking that all of our members become involved as best you can, either by becoming or finding a Sponsor, signing up as a Patron, Volunteering your time to help the week go smoothly or just attending the events, touring the “Wet Gallery” and “Buying Art”. If you haven’t participated in the past, it is a very high spirited fun event with parties, free art demonstrations and the friendliest artists you will

ever run into (of course, ALL artists are friendly!). Visit our website at

NSBPaintOut.com for further information or call our office at 386- 424-9254 with any questions.

We look forward to seeing you all there to Discover Art through Nature!

Upcoming show themes:

  • September - Gallery is Closed
  • October/November - Art in Nature
  • December - Deck the Walls

We are closing the Gallery for the month of September to refresh the space. Our next show, "Art in Nature" will be in October and November. Drop off is Oct 3 from 11-3 or Oct. 4 from 9-11. Since this is a themed show there is a $5.00 entry fee per piece. You may have two entries.

December will once again be our small works judged show "Deck the Walls". Paintings can be no larger than 8x10. This does not include the frame. Three dimensional pieces can be no taller than 10 inches and must be able to sit on a pedestal.

Please let our staff know if you want to be added to our volunteer list. The more volunteers we have, the less time people will be asked to sit in the gallery.

As always, be watching for the frequent studio emails we send re: all art intake and pick up dates.

Thank you,

Liz Clayton,

Gallery Chairman

EcoArt Adventure Camp (ages 5 -10)

Artists’ Workshop along with Marine Discovery Center is celebrating the completion of our another successful summer camp. This is our third year partnering to offer 10 weeks of EcoArt Summer Adventure Camp. A nature, science and art based program. Each week we welcomed a new group of 20 amazing young students to gather at MDC to get their feet wet learning about OCEAN LITERACY. When they returned they entered an AWI classroom where an art educator helped them apply that knowledge to a unique art project. Special thanks to Regina Wise for her incredibly creative lesson plans, our classroom educators for their talent and commitment to our campers and both MDC and AWI support staff for ensuring everything went smoothly. This is one example of the ways our two non profit organizations partner to support each others efforts to Discover Nature through Art. Helping young people understand and respect nature while appreciating and creating art. Now that's a winning combination!
