Presidents Message

Dear Members,

I am just coming off of an exhausting yet exhilarating week of the Plein Air Paint

Out, and can only say, that once again, we had a super successful event. During the middle of the Paint Out week, I had to duck out for a few hours for our first house dedication with Habitat for Humanity for our “Home Is Where the Art Is” project. As you may know, this project has been in the works for a long time but it's finally off the ground. Thanks to the right forces coming together our first dedication was a well attended, heartfelt event that brought tears to my eyes! I feel grateful that this will now be an ongoing project for the Artists’ Workshop community to share their talents and give to those who appreciate the opportunity to add art to their homes. In fact, the second house dedication is coming up on November 9, and what a story that one has….but more about that later! Just

remember, your donations of original artwork to be shared with Habitat Homeowners are gratefully always accepted!

We have one more member’s meeting this year on Sunday, November 12 from 1 to 3 pm with a demonstration by Trish Beckham. Soon after we have our Holiday Luncheon and Small Works judged show on December 13 th ….then the holidays and January it starts all over again! Keep your eyes open for emails as well as checking the website for additional information. I hope everyone stays well and slows down a bit in the next couple of months in order to enjoy the Holiday Season… Thanksgiving through New Years…with family and friends”

Wishing you the best,

Cheryl

Paint Out 2023

We hope you all had an opportunity to come out and experience our largest fundraiser of the year the New Smyrna Beach Plein Air Paint Out. There were so many activities and an abundance of beautiful art being created and sold daily by all 20 regional talented artists. We don't have a tally on all of the numbers yet but based on community feedback believe it to be one of our best Paint Out's ever! We continue to grow the event every year with more free art demonstrations, more elegant evening events and more beautiful paintings produced everyday to fill our "wet gallery”. This year we had more volunteers than ever and although I would like to thank each and every volunteer by name, I will have to save that for a different venue. Just know that you are all appreciated and I think the best news is, that everyone had fun! Now its time to start preparing for the 2024 NSB PAINT OUT so mark your calendars for October 15 th to October 19 th when we'll once again bring to light the important work of Marine Discovery Center (MDC) and Artists' Workshop of New Smyrna Beach (AWI) to Discover Nature Through Art.

Community Exhibits

The Artists’ Workshop Community Exhibits program is an opportunity for members to display and sell their artwork. Our local area has several venues where the shows are hung for months at a time.

There is a new community exhibit in the New Smyrna library with five different member artists. Paintings by Denise Benny and color pencil work by Maryann Oliver, Cathy Hightower, Rosie Henik and Fran LoCastro. This is a wonderful exhibit from some of our very talented member artists. Please let us know if you would like to show your work at one of our community exhibit locations.

Maggie Arndt, who is the community exhibit liaison at the United Church of Christ is stepping down and we need a new liaison there. Any one interested please contact us.
