Hello All, and Happy Spring- I think the weather is finally changing! It’s been a very busy first couple of months for me. There’s quite a learning curve in understanding the
complexities and demands of the job, so I’m very grateful that I have access to the knowledge and experience that Cheryl has to share, as well as the backing of the office staff who make sure that things keep rolling along fairly smoothly. So far, in the first quarter, we’ve had two Member Meetings, featuring informative demos by members
and teachers, Ruth Squitieri and Patricia Domanski. Thanks to them both for showing us how they approach their work as artists. In March members connected again at the Annual Member’s Show Awards Presentation and Brunch on March 10, on a sunny, warm day. Congratulations to the many winners, and thanks to the 105 people who shared their artwork with the rest of us. The Show is still hanging in the Studio Gallery where we hold classes, and will be up until March 21 if you’d like to come by and see it. You’ll see the winners announced elsewhere in this newsletter. Long term, we’re working hard on the NSB Paint-Out, meeting monthly, and preparing materials for our sponsor campaign. Don’t forget to put the week of October 21-25 on your calendars! Though itseems very far away, it’ll come before you know it, and we’ll need support from all of our membership to make this first year a great success! As the fall gets closer, please watch for info about becoming a patron, a sponsor, or volunteering a few hours.Up next this Spring- one more Member Meeting on April 13th at the Studios, 1-3 PM, with a Demo from another of our excellent teachers, Patrick Rausch. And a special meeting on May 18th will recognize our wonderful volunteers, and includes a pot luck, so be sure to come and enjoy the culinary delights that members will share.
As always, grab a friend and introduce them to our friendly group of artists and art enthusiasts- newcomers are always welcome!

| | About 130 or so members and guests joined us on a comfortably warm and sunny day for our 67th Annual Members’ Show. With 105 entries, the gallery is filled with beautiful art by our members, ranging from encaustics and watercolors, to fiber arts and clay, with many other media as well. Laubster’s Catering provided another delicious Brunch for us, and member Kathy Kerrigan provided sweet treats for the volunteers, and dessert. Twenty-eight awards were given out, elected by Judge Jeffrey Shonkwiler, who chose a variety of winners representing excellence in Watercolor, Oils, Portraits, Flowers, Landscapes, Birds, Plein Air, and more! Top honors this year went to the following artists: Best of Show to Cindy Weimer, for “Full Steam Ahead,” an amazing example of Clay proficiency, shown in her imaginative Steam Punk figure. First Prize went to Laura Robinson, whose beautiful “Sassy and Fresh” watercolor painting showcased her mastery of the medium. Laura also captured “People’s Choice.” Second Prize was awarded to Kathy Bond-Nelson for a captivating watercolor portrait of her great- granddaughter, “Elia,” and Third Prize was awarded to Mindy Colton, for her uniquely charming 3D Horse “Lady Bug.” For a full list of awards please click link below. Congratulations to all our artists, and thanks to all who entered. | | Art Classes & Open Studio | |

Community Outreach Corner
We have added this section to highlight the good we are doing within our community. Our goal is to raise awareness about who AWI is and how we are still after 67 years continuing to serve our communities needs. The above photograph was taken at the SEV Habitat for Humanity February Gala where Ruth Squitieri provided a demonstration of Plein Air Painting. The painting was donated and auctioned at the event with all proceeds benefiting Habitat for Humanity
Our ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity and our project Home is where the HeART is continues to celebrate and bring art into the homes of our communities newest residents. Each new home owner is invited to visit our studios where they select original art donated by AWI members for their new home.
Let us know if you have a suggestion for our community Outreach Corner.
