A Message from the President

Summer is practically here, and with it comes a slower pace for many of us. The winter residents have fled to their cooler northern climes, and one of our Studios is filled with dozens of children from the start of June, though August 8 for our Eco Art Camp. What a fun program that is, and a great example of a “hands-on” learning collaboration between Marine Discovery Center and the Artists’ Workshop.

Studio C will still be hosting some regular classes, so check our website for info online if you’re interested in trying to fit in a little more art this summer. The Clay studio will be humming along with Workshops, Classes and Open Studios as well.

PLEASE NOTE, our Office schedule will be changing for June, July and August as well. As of June 1 we will have office coverage on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and occasionally on Fridays, so please plan accordingly if you wish to stop in and see someone in the office. Call anytime and leave a message as well!

In addition, the Canal St. Gallery will be closed on Mondays through the summer as well. We’ll be rolling out new hours for the Canal St Gallery once summer is over, and trying

evening hours one night a week to accommodate the uptick in traffic that has been created by our new neighbors on the street, so watch for announcements about that!

There are lots of things going on that will help Artists Workshop move vigorously into the future- we’ll be adding technology that will allow us to give every student a better view of class and workshop demos, we’re looking at providing classes online, we’re adding lots of exciting workshops in both Clay and 2D art, and ramping up our Social Media posts.

Please take a minute to go to "Like" our page on Facebook, "Follow" our Instagram and, as always, the latest news and updates on classes, etc will be on artistsworkshopinc.com.

Enjoy your summer, and we’ll see you in person in the fall when we kick off our Member Meetings on Sunday, September 14th, 2025!

Thank you to our Volunteers!

We all gathered on Sunday afternoon, May 18th, for a great day to celebrate our accomplishments and recognize our many hardworking and generous volunteers!

As expected, lots of members turned out for our May Potluck meeting and no one went home hungry. Delicious delicacies from chips and salsa to salads and desserts were shared!

Though unable to be in attendance, AWI President, Anne Dall had a special gift and message of gratitude to our many volunteers:

Thank you! You are so very appreciated! I’d like to thank you all for helping Artist’s Workshop GROW, with a token of appreciation that I hope you’ll find fun! Yes, you can grow a plant from seed, just as our organization grows from the seeds of committed member engagement.”

Each volunteer member in attendance received a peat pellet plant pot and seeds to try out their green thumbs! One of our newest member volunteers, Suzanne Garver, is committed to helping in the Gallery on Canal Street, on a weekly basis. Suzanne says, “I just love sitting in the gallery! I love to talk to all the people who come in! And I’ve even sold some of my small works!”

Longtime instructor, Patrick Rausch, serves as a volunteer on the Board of Directors. Patrick says, “Being on the board is a way of giving back to a wonderful organization that brings our community together through art. In addition, being on the board allows me to share ideas with thoughtful people and help guide the future of The Artists Workshop.”

This October will be Alicen Koch’s third year volunteering for Paint Out. The first year, Alicen focused on behind the scenes work helping with intake during the week event. Last year, Alicen joined the Paint Out Committee and now she is indispensable helping solicit sponsors and patrons for the AWI Paint Out fundraiser. Alicen says, “I love volunteering—supporting the community I love through art and camaraderie of others."

If you or someone you know would like to volunteer for AWI, please contact Tina or Charon in the office at 386-424-9254. Our main areas of need for volunteers include, the Paint Out (our annual fundraiser), the Gallery on Canal Street, and Board of Director/Committee Members. You can volunteer occasionally, or for a regularly scheduled time.

15th Annual NSB Plein Air Paint Out

Our studios will be home to the 2025 New Smyrna Beach Plein Air Paint Out from Tuesday, October 21st to Saturday, October 25th!

This premiere 5 day event features 20 talented artists from the Southeast whose paintings will capture the beauty of our community, from sea to shore to beloved landmarks. Make plans to join us for free Artists Demonstrations and our daily Wet Gallery. Enjoy special events for Patrons and Sponsors.

This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Artists’ Workshop and we encourage all our members to get involved by becoming or seeking Sponsors, becoming a Patron, or Volunteering your time to help. Plan to attend the events, bring friends to the Wet Gallery and maybe buy some amazing art.

If you haven’t participated in the past, it is a very high spirited fun event with parties, free art demonstrations and the friendliest artists you will ever run into.

We look forward to Celebrating Art, Nature and Community with you in October!

Canal Street Gallery

Starting June the gallery will be closed on Mondays. Due to the shorter time your work will be seen, the next show will be a three month themed show titled "A Festival of Art" which leaves it wide open to whatever you want to show.

There will be a $5.00 fee per piece which will be used for advertising. You will also be allowed to change out your art halfway through the show if you desire. Entries are limited to two per person.

This show will open June 7 and run through Sept. 3 and will also include a special tribute to Constanz Elder who was a long time chairman of the gallery.

Keep your eyes open for emails with more details. Questions?

Book club meets Sept to May, the 3rd Thursday of the month at 11a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Summer reading will be A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, and discuss Russian art and collections. While the book does not focus on art or an artist, the art is in the writing.  Reviewed as, 'a memorable character that you come to care about and root for', 'a joyful read'.

A non-fiction book for summer reading is, All the Beauty in the World, by Patrick Bringley. Happy summer to all, we look forward to seeing you at book club in the Fall!
