Presidents Message

Dear Members

Looking back over the past year of activities, I am amazed and gratified that we have been able to “pull everything off” so successfully. Every year seems to get busier! There seems to be no end to new ideas for projects and ideas that will make us stronger and a destination for our members and community to come to in order to learn, create and enjoy our beautiful environment. I truly feel that anyone who walks through our doors and takes a class or workshop, or displays their work in a show or our gallery, or volunteers, can’t help but be a happier person because of their involvement with Artists’ Workshop. We are an organization of “givers and sharers” and our success is built on that foundation and also the knowledge that staying busy and giving of oneself is the key to happiness! So, if you see me smiling all of the time you will know how thankful and proud I have been to have Artists’ Workshop in my life!

A partial list of all the activities from the past year include The Plein Air Paint Out, partnering with MDC, Our Habitat for Humanity Project “Home is Where the Art Is”, Summer EcoArt Camp with MDC, The Member’s Show and reception, Sunday afternoon member’s meetings with free art demos, our Holiday Luncheon and collection of food for the needy, our community outreach art exhibits, the renovation and reorganization of our clay studio, and of course, the many successful and well attended classes, workshops and Canal Street Gallery shows. None of those things could have been done without the support and enthusiasm of our members, teachers, students, volunteers and our staff! So if you fall in to one of those categories, PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK, and accept my thanks!

Many of the above activities are actually fund raisers as well as “fun” raisers! We also depend on member’s dues, class and workshop fees, donations, the County Cultural Grant, and for the first year, hopefully we will receive a State of Florida Grant. It takes more money than you would imagine to keep our doors open and the buildings in shape. We want to continue to explore new ideas and grow, so we are thankful for your support……Have a wonderful summer!

Canal Street Gallery

Congratulations to these talented artists who sold pieces from the April/May show "April Showers bring May Flowers".

  • Laura Robinson
  • Liv Withrow
  • Irene Moody

We also sold several clay pieces from our talented AWI clay artists

Upcoming show themes are

  • June - "Artists Choice"
  • July/August - "Razzle Dazzle" featuring Abstract Art
  • September - "Artists Choice"

A policy change has been made for the gallery. For themed shows, we are asking EVERYONE to contribute to the cost of the extra advertising. This means that people selling note cards, jewelry and clay items are asked to pay $5.00 to enter the show. (per show not item)

I want to thank everyone who has faithfully volunteered to sit in our gallery. We continue to welcome new visitors to the gallery and now that we have retail stores next door to us, I expect that we will be seeing many more! Please let Tina or Charon know if you want to be added to our volunteer list. The more volunteers we have, the less time people will be asked to sit in the gallery.

As always, be watching for the frequent studio emails we send re: all art intake and pick up dates.

Thank you,

Liz Clayton,

Gallery Chairman

Community Exhibits

The Artists’ Workshop Community Exhibits program is an opportunity for members to display and sell their artwork. Our local area has several venues where the shows are hung for months at a time. In this Newsletter we are highlighting artwork by Evy Okerstrom a watercolor artist and instructor. Evy is also the contact person for the community exhibits at the Trinity Lutheran Church and Dr Daquila's office. Her paintings are bright and warm, featuring colorful Florida scenes and much more. Contact Evy to see these exhibits or to display your art in either of these two locations. Take a ride over to any of these locations to view fine art by our talented AWI artists. Please contact us if you would like to show your work in any of our venues.

Youth Programs

EcoArt Camp

Ages 5-7 and 8-10

Happily, Artists’ Workshop is partnering again for the third summer with Marine Discovery Center for 10 weeks of EcoArt Camp. Starting June 3 and ending August 9, we'll have 20 students each week gathering in our studio B to learn about OCEAN LITERACY and how the ocean affects so many areas of our lives. That knowledge will then be translated into an art project that the students can take home.  My special thanks to Regina Wise for her creative lesson plans, Tina Pritchard for her organizational skills, the MDC staff and, of course, the teachers for making this all come together. I love the idea of using art as a learning tool to help kids understand and respect nature and our environment. It’s going to be an exciting summer in our studios!!

Library News & Book Club

It's always a good time to browse our Art Library and find a book to inspire you! Please remember this is a lending library and  please, please, return your borrowed books.

Book club meets the 3rd Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. September to May. We select a novel related to art each month but remember you don't have to read the book to enjoy the group.

Book club is taking a break this Summer but will return in September. However, there will be a book give-away  table at our member's meeting on May 22nd.

Please email or text me for library or book club information. kk8ocean@gmail.com   386-4168746
