Dear Members,
Hope this newsletter finds everyone rested from the holidays and looking forward to an active and artsy 2024!
My thanks to all who were able to attend our Holiday Luncheon at the Brannon Center…..it turned out to be a warm, relaxed event that gave everyone a chance to “catch up “ with friends and fellow artists and to get into the “holiday spirit”. Your donations of canned goods for Halifax Urban Ministries was greatly appreciated by the volunteers who donate their time organizing and passing out the food……they were very impressed with the volume we collected….so, a big thanks to all who participated!
It looks like we’re going to have a busy winter, with classes and workshops filling up quickly. If you have been considering registering, now is the time to do it. Take a look at our website for all the latest art opportunities. If you have ever flirted with the idea of taking a clay class or workshop but felt unsure about whether or not you had the “talent” necessary to to do it, come to our next Member’s Meeting on Sunday, January 21, 1 to 3 pm. We'll have demonstrations on clay hand building, the wheel and also different clay ornamentation techniques. This will be a great opportunity to get your questions answered and you might just find a new creative outlet! Look forward to seeing you all there!

| Our 66th Annual Members Show Awards Presentation will take place on March 10, 2024 at AWI Studios. We hope that you will join us for this relaxed catered Sunday Brunch, starting at about 12 PM, featuring a “Garden Party” theme. The Gallery will open at 11:00 AM and the awards presentation will start at 1:30 PM. Last year we had 115 entries and 31 Awards, totaling near $5,800! Including 10 new awards that were sponsored by our own AWI members, (or groups of members) who contributed. Please think about sponsoring an award if you’d like to honor someone’s memory, or perhaps fill in a gap for a specific medium that we don’t currently recognize for an award. You are eligible to enter if you were a current member by December 31st, 2023. You must register your entry before you come to drop it off! You can do this online February 1-29th or complete a form and return to AWI. This year we are again offering two times to drop off artwork at our studios at 540 Barracuda Blvd.: Friday, March 1, 1:30 to 4:30 PM, or Saturday morning, March 2, 9 to Noon. Rules and additional details are posted on our website and paper copies will be available at the studios and Canal Street Gallery. | |
We are offering many new art and clay classes this Winter along with all the familiar ones. We are also welcoming some new instructors to join those returning to offer our members a wide range of art opportunities. Registration is now open. | |
