The AZ House ensures that its residents and/or their families do not pay the tuition fees that it costs us to treat them. This is because we believe that recovery should be available to everyone, not based on a financial status.
But does this help the recovery of the residents?
The answer is a resounding yes. We have seen it work before our eyes, and our high success rate adds proof that the free treatment does in fact help the alcoholic and addict. How?
Well, for starters, the staff here has no reason to dilute a method in order to retain a client. There are stories of institutions where the judgement of the staff had gotten clouded due to their attempt to retain clients. And it makes sense. When there is a lot of money involved, who's judgement doesn't get clouded? At the AZ House, we guarantee that the message and treatment methods are given over to our clients with no regard to their payment, and that is because they don't pay their way in.
Another way that this helps our residents is the simple gratitude they have by being here. The residents understand that they are here because of goodwill, not their money or their family's money. This helps them learn how to be grateful, how to make the best of a situation instead of complain, how to follow instructions, and how to do chores, which although may be obvious for most people, are not something that many addicts and alcoholics know how to do. Here they receive tools which help them succeed in the outside world, not just in the house.
For residents who are unsure of whether they want to get clean, this program helps them by being free for them. So if they are not willing to go through the treatment, they can walk out the door. When a resident knows that but still stays, they have an easier time looking at their situation in a mature way, knowing that if they haven't already left, a part of them may really want this recovery.
This is a community problem, and with the community's help, we have a community solution. We are grateful to serve the addict and their families.
We would like to give a special thanks to all of our night staff volunteers here at the AZ House. The night staff here is made up of mostly alumni of our program. They choose to come and help to show their gratitude and to give back to our new residents.
