A note from Founder Diana Diaz-Harrison, tips on how to stay connected to us, and more!
Hello AZACS family and friends!

I hope our AZACS community of families, educators and supporters is doing well despite difficult world events. Now more than ever, it's important to offer a safe and consistent place for our special students to learn and grow. It has been a breath of fresh air to see students back onsite for Appointment-Based School!  This move required careful planning and cautious execution to ensure we are following all CDC guidelines to keep our students and staff safe. A huge thank you to all the staff members and families who have helped us run a successful program over the last month. We consider this an essential service for many special needs families who count on us when there are limited choices for our kids.

For more on  why we decided to open our doors over the summer, please take a moment to read this LinkedIn article

Our team is working diligently to ensure a safe re-opening for all students in the fall! Construction is moving smoothly at our new building at 4125 N. 14th St. as well as the conversion of our Upper School Campus on Indian School to the new Early Learning Center.

In order to ensure the most successful re-opening, we'd like to get your feedback via a short survey  AZACS - 19/20 School Closure Survey . Some families have already responded, but we have yet to hear from about 50% of our families. Your feedback is essential, so we thank you in advance for taking the time.

Thank you for being a part of the AZACS family and we look forward to sharing news and updates via this newsletter as well as our social media channels. See below for links!

We're working extra hard to stay active on social media these days given that we can't always be together. Use the links above to follow AZACS on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter. We love to highlight our programs, teachers, and students, so follow us to stay on top on all our latest news!

As we innovate and establish new routines here at AZACS, we are sharing what we learn online. For example, check out some the pictures we posted on  Facebook  and  Instagram  featuring some of our teachers and students on campus for Appointment-Based School.

Announcing our new   Early  Learning  Center!!

Due to the high demand for Kindergarten and 1st grade, AZACS is dedicating its former Upper School Building on Indian School Road exclusively to our youngest students.

We have assembled a dream team to lead our Early Learning Center (see photo on right) including:
  • Patrick Masson (far right) who will lead the Center as an Assistant Director. Patrick has been working with students with autism since graduating from the University of Connecticut in 2009. He worked as an ABA therapist for two years with public school students in Connecticut prior to moving to Arizona in 2011. Patrick was one of AZACS' first teachers and since coming on board he has received his Masters in Special Education from Grand Canyon University and is currently enrolled in a graduate level Educational Leadership program through Northern Arizona University.
  • Courtney Burden (middle) will step into the role of ABA Program Manager at the Center. Courtney has a long history teaching students with special needs and considers it her life passion. Last year, Courtney joined us as a Kindergarten teacher having moved from the Boston area where she taught special education using ABA for more than ten years.
  • Jacqueline Oates (on left) was just recently brought on board as Special Education Program Manager of the Center. Jacqueline comes to us with a rich background in special education and a unique perspective having spent some time teaching outside of the country. Jacqueline has been a teacher for more than 12 years, working primarily with students with ASD. She has completed her Masters degree in Education with a focus on teaching children with ASD and is a National Board Certified Teacher/Exceptional Needs Specialist.
By opening the Early Learning Center, AZACS will be able to offer four new Kindergarten classrooms and three 1st grade classrooms serving an additional 80 primary students in our first year!

In case you've missed it, our older kids will be moving across the street to a newly constructed state-of-the-art facility (see here ). We are very excited to grow our capacity to serve more students and families at these two great sites. Stay tuned for pictures and videos of our model classrooms at our new Early Learning Center!
Our 2020-2021 school calendar is available ...

Take a look! Our newest school calendar is available on our website here

*School start and end times are subject to change based on CDC guidelines that encourage staggered scheduling of school days. AZACS leadership will be communicating the 20/21 school safety procedures the first week of July. Please stay tuned.
Thank you for your support!
