A Note from the Program Manager

Greetings!

As the higher elevations in Arizona start seeing the Fall leaves change. And so it AZPTAC; we have a new logo. We are proud to introduce our logo that was created by the AZPTAC staff and approved by our state office. The logo represents our great state and some of its beautiful landscape. Our hope is that when you see this logo you think of AZPTAC!

National PTAC Day celebration! Special thanks go to our very knowledgeable and experienced panelist of the AZPTAC. DeWayne Lewis, President of Top Onyx, LLC, Menny Ortega, Owner of Pinal Construction, LLC, and Wil Johnson, President of Cetechs. The valuable insights shared on government contracting were very motivating to attendees. This is based on their reactions to panelists' responses to questions asked. Thank you to all who participated and made our AZPTAC National PTAC Day event a success!

AZPTAC has partially returned to the office! Please see the list of office locations and hours. All in-person client meetings will need to be scheduled in advance.

Don’t forget to join us for our upcoming workshops in October (calendar of events).

Best regards,

Lori Haozous

Interim Program Manager

National PTAC Day

Phoenix, AZ – Arizona PTAC celebrated National PTAC Day on September 21, 2022. AZPTAC hosted an event for the small business community featuring a panel of past AZPTAC Success Award winners. The panelists shared their experiences with the “Challenges and Successes of Government Contracting” to over 40 attendees.

The panelists featured were Wilbert Johnson, Cetechs (2018 winner), Manuel Ortega, Pinal Construction (2019 winner), and DeWayne Lewis, Top Onyx (2021 winner). The panelists shared how AZPTAC assisted them, the steps they took to win their first contract, and how they got through the pandemic.

When asked what advice they would give, DeWayne Lewis said, “Make PTAC your best friend. They are an excellent resource.”

National PTAC Day 2022 united the over 90 Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs) across the country and U.S. territories and the 56,000+ clients they serve by sharing, in real-time, small business success stories and the significant economic impact that PTAC clients have created within their communities.

Hurricane Disaster Relief - Steps to Take Now

In the aftermath of a disaster, potential contractors swarm to the site hoping for a piece of the clean-up and recovery effort. For inexperienced players, it can be chaotic, confusing, and cut-throat, as informal subcontracting agreements are made on the ground which may not be enforceable and third-party firms falsely promise no-bid contracts to those who pay big bucks to be on a “priority vendors list” (there is no such list). Government officials in charge of relief efforts are overwhelmed and information may be hard to come by. What is a small contractor to do?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sept. 23, 2022

Verification of Veteran-owned small businesses will transfer from VA to SBA WASHINGTON — Effective Jan. 1, 2023, all responsibilities for the verification of Veteran-owned small businesses will transfer from the Department of Veterans Affairs to the Small Business Administration. Verification is a critical process that allows Veteran-owned small businesses and service-disabled Veteran-owned small businesses to access Veteran-specific benefits, including certain government contracts and the purchase of surplus government property. This process establishes eligibility by confirming that VOSBs and SDVOSBs are, in fact, run by Veterans. To facilitate the transition to SBA, VA will stop taking applications for verification or reverification of VOSBs and SDVOSBs Oct. 24, 2022. The department is reaching out to all Veterans who may be impacted by this action to inform them of VA’s Oct. 24th application deadline. Until then, Veterans can continue to apply for verification at VA’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization. “We value our partnership with the Small Business Administration in this effort,” said Executive Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization Sharon Ridley. “VA will reach out to all impacted Veterans to ensure a transparent, seamless transition of the verification process.” This transition is part of a government-wide effort, mandated by the William H. Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act, to streamline and consolidate services offered to VOSBs and SDVOSBs under SBA. The only VA function that is transitioning to SBA is the responsibility for verification. VA’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization will continue to advocate and provide education, training and guidance to help VOSBs and SDVOSBs secure government contracts

PTAC Specialists can assist with the certification process. Contact your specialist or call 623-845-4700.
