Hello Jennifer,

In 2022 we sponsored two webinars (and participated in one in collaboration with Schrodinger) on the use of a novel tool to support drug development of chiral molecules. The speakers, senior pharmaceutical scientists, highlighted real world uses of our optical spectroscopy approaches to working with complex chiral compounds:

  • Real time access to absolute stereochemistry
  • How stereochemical assignment can deconvolute SAR
  • Eliminating the struggle of crystallizing every compound
  • The advantages of evaluating chirality in the solution phase
  • Chemical problem solving in asymmetric synthesis
  • The value of early assignment in securing intellectual property

Would like to learn more? We at BioTools would be happy to have a discussion with you about this technique, or you can do some self-learning by watching any or all of the webinar recordings.

Accelerating Drug Discovery & Development by Unlocking the Stereochemistry of Chiral Molecules: the Power of VCD

Determining absolute configuration is critical in drug discovery and development but is often a challenge and a rate limiting step. The current gold standard is X-ray crystallography which requires growth of a single crystal. Also, the Xray methodology is often expensive and time consuming.  The maturation of Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD) makes it ideal alternative to streamline and accelerate the process. VCD is performed in solution, requires no crystallization and has been proven with the characterization of over 10,000 molecules.

Schrödinger is transforming the way therapeutics and materials are discovered. Schrödinger has pioneered a physics-based software platform that enables discovery of high-quality, novel molecules for drug development and materials applications more rapidly and at lower cost compared to traditional methods.

Richard Lewis holds a degree in natural sciences – with an emphasis in chemistry – from Cambridge University, UK and a PhD in physical organic chemistry with Tony Kirby, focussing on how conformations as shown in crystal structures correlate with biological activity.
