Greetings from Abby's Closet!
We hope you are all staying healthy and safe at home.
Last month, Abby's Closet made the difficult decision to cancel our annual Prom Dress Giveaway due to the group gathering size restrictions put in place by the state of Oregon and concerns over spreading Covid-19. While the decision was a tough one, it was the right call to make. As we all try to navigate our new normal we wanted to touch base with our wonderful Abby's Closet supporters and check-in.
We would like to start with a few thank yous. First, to the sponsors of the 16th annual Prom Dress Giveaway. We are so grateful for the support of

Macy's Washington Square
and
Consolidated Credit Union
and look forward to continuing these connections in the future. Abby's Closet would also like to recognize the over 600 volunteers who had signed up to assist at the event. We would not be able to pull the event off without your help. We are already looking forward to seeing you all at next year's event! Finally, thank you to everyone who donated dresses and accessories over the course of the year. We collected over 3,000 dresses bringing our total dress count to 7,538 heading into the Giveaway. Those dresses will be put in storage for now.
While we were not able to host our Giveaway event, we were able to partner with the Portland Rose Festival, providing dresses to the final candidates for the 2020 Portland Rose Festival Court. Abby's Closet also worked with the Tim Tebow Foundation providing dresses for the Night to Shine Prom for individuals with special needs. We are happy that we were able to distribute at least a few beautiful dresses this year.
At this time, our Clubhouse, where we store our dresses is closed. Our organization wants to do everything we can to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. While we were thrown a curve ball this year, we have already
started on plans for our 2021 event. In fact, we have set a date! Please mark your calendars for April 10-11, 2021.
Moving forward Abby's Closet is excited to start accepting applications for our Juan Young Trust Scholarship.
Abby’s Closet is honored to once again partner with The Juan Young Trust to offer three, $1,000 scholarship awards to deserving young women in our community. Graduating seniors from the Portland Public School District, Beaverton School District, or Hillsboro School District, who plan to attend Portland State University or Portland Community College are invited to apply. Applications due by midnight on April 24, 2020. Winner will be notified by the beginning of May.
