On Monday evening, April 29, 1912, ʻAbdu'l-Bahá - son of Baháʼu'lláh, the Prophet-Founder of the Baháʼí Faith - arrived by train in Chicago, IL, for the very first time as part of His historic trip to North America.
In a public talk the next day, ʻAbdu'l-Bahá said: "Ignorant prejudices are being dispelled, and the light of unity is shining. The differences existing between nations and peoples will soon be annulled, and the fundamentals of the divine religions, which are no other than the oneness and solidarity of the human race, are being established. For thousands of years the human race has been at war. It is enough." (The Promulgation of Universal Peace, #27)
As we look toward the centenary of the passing of ʻAbdu'l-Bahá this Fall, now is a good time to read and reflect on the talks and actions He offered to all humankind in service to Baháʼu'lláh.
The Promulgation of Universal Peace is a collection of 140 talks given by 'Abdu'l-Bahá during his extensive tour of North America in 1912. This compilation touches on a wide range of subjects including the coming of age of the human race, the oneness and continuity of the Prophets of God, and the oneness of religion as a social force for establishing world order and peace. These talks serve as a priceless resource for studying the language and personal example of one of the most significant religious figures in recent history.
