Aberdeen Ave Safety Improvement Project

Installation Update

Thank you for your continued interested in the Aberdeen Ave Safety Improvement Project. See below for key updates.

Project Mostly Complete

Nearly all elements of the project are installed, and the project is operating as intended. Some less major work still remains, which is outlined below:

Remaining Work: Estimated Completion Early Winter

  • Signals: One of the traffic signals at Aberdeen Ave and Huron Ave is currently being powered with an overhead connection. This will be changed to an underground connection, pending an additional utility access permit.
  • Pavement Markings: Bike symbols will be added and additional green markings to indicate where bike lanes and side-streets cross.

Next Steps: 2026 and Beyond

As with all new projects, we plan to keep a close eye on Aberdeen Ave and make adjustments as needed to address concerns if and when they occur. We'll be paying close attention to the following:

  • Winter Operations and Maintenance: We will work with our peers at the Department of Public Works to get feedback on winter operations and other maintenance needs with the new layout.
  • Speed Data: Now that the street layout is different, we will collect speed data next year to understand the effect the project.

Please Keep In Touch

This is likely the last formal project email, but there are lots of ways to keep in touch with the work we do at the Cambridge Department of Transportation:

  • Visit our CSO Projects Page for updates on all upcoming Cycling Safety Ordinance projects, including all project pages for upcoming work. If you're interested in a particular project, make sure to sign up for the individual project list.
  • Sign-up for City-wide daily emails, which are sent every night at 7:00 PM. Whenever a large project is announced, you'll hear it first here.
