Sharing Gratitude, Joy, and Thanksgiving Traditions | | |
Across Abilities First, the spirit of Thanksgiving came alive in the most wonderful ways. From heartfelt reflections to festive parades, themed celebrations, and acts of giving at our schools and programs, this season was filled with moments that remind us what community is all about.
Our staff and board took time to reflect on what they’re grateful for — from the resilience of the people we support to the dedication of colleagues who show up each day with compassion and purpose. Their words set the tone for a season centered on kindness, connection, and gratitude.
At our education sites, Thanksgiving celebrations were in full swing.
-
Hyde Park Education Center honored Thankful Thursday and Friendship Friday by giving back, collecting donations for the Hyde Park Family Resource Center.
-
Middletown Education Center and the Myers Corners Education Center welcomed families to each site for a festive Thanksgiving parade and feast that filled the school with joy.
-
Students at the Executive Drive Preschool brought the cozy spirit of the season with Flannel Day.
These moments of celebration — from giving back to gathering together — showcase the heart of Abilities First: a community where every person is included, valued, and celebrated.
| | Giving Tuesday: Because You Believe in Abilities First | | |
This Giving Tuesday, we are reminded of something powerful: Because you believe in Abilities First, possibilities continue to grow.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving — a moment when people everywhere come together to support the causes that matter most. This year, that support is more critical than ever. As we continue serving over 1,300 people across 29 school districts in the Hudson Valley, we're also ensuring that 200 students remain in school following our recent program's expansion.
These children and adults are counting on us — and we're counting on you. Since 1962, Abilities First has championed independence, opportunity, and inclusion for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities — from preschool through adulthood. But the heart of this mission has always been you — the families, staff, donors, and partners who believe in the potential of every person we serve.
| |
Every gift makes a difference. Every dollar goes directly to empowering independence and creating opportunities right here in the Hudson Valley.
Your generosity on Giving Tuesday helps us continue serving the individuals and families who need us most. Will you join us today?
| | Holiday Helping Hands: Your Gift Creates Holiday Miracles for Hudson Valley Families | | |
Each year, our Holiday Helping Hands program shows what’s possible when a community comes together with compassion. This year is no exception — thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, business partners, and friends of Abilities First.
Holiday Helping Hands provides direct support to families of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities facing financial hardship during the season. From groceries to household essentials and small gifts that bring comfort and joy, your kindness provides relief, dignity, and connection when it’s needed most. And as more families reach out for help, this support becomes even more essential.
Because of you, caregivers can give their loved ones the holiday they deserve — one filled with warmth and the reassurance that they are not alone.
Thank you to the businesses and community partners who helped kick-start the holiday spirit with their generous support: JOH Kids 360, United Way of Dutchess and Orange, Stewart's Shops, Michelle Smith and Stephen King, the Preddice Family, Orange Bank & Trust, Price Chopper/Market 32 and A & R Security. Your kindness is making a meaningful difference this season.
And there is still time to make a difference. Your gift today ensures no table goes empty, no child is forgotten, and every family feels the warmth of knowing someone cares. Together, we bring comfort and hope to the holiday season.
