Celebrating Leadership at Abilities First! | | |
We are thrilled to share that Cheryl Bogdanowicz, a dedicated team member from the Abilities First WOW Program, has been recognized with the Leadership Award at the New York State Association of Day Service Providers (NYSADSP) Symposium!
This award celebrates Cheryl’s commitment to empowering people with developmental disabilities through compassionate leadership, creative programming, and a deep belief in what’s possible. Her work has not only enriched the lives of those she supports but has also inspired her peers throughout the organization.
The vision of NYSADSP is to help providers like Abilities First as they develop quality community-based, vocational, volunteer, educational, and social activities that maximize personal growth and enrich each individual’s life. This vision is realized through collaboration, advocacy, training, and innovation — all of which Cheryl exemplifies in her daily work.
“This award is more than a recognition — it’s a reflection of Cheryl’s passion, care, and leadership,” said Brenda Douglas, Director of Day Hab Services. “She lives our mission and lifts everyone around her.”
Cheryl’s efforts reflect the very heart of the WOW Program and Abilities First: creating meaningful opportunities, encouraging independence, and helping every person feel seen, supported, and included. Please join us in celebrating Cheryl’s incredible achievement — and in thanking her for all she does to make Abilities Made Possible every day.

Fall Fun in Full Swing: Celebrating Our Annual
Day Hab & Residential Picnics!
| | |
We kicked off the season with not one, but two unforgettable fall celebrations — our Annual Day Hab Picnic and our Residential Picnic — bringing together individuals, staff, families, and friends for afternoons filled with laughter, connection, and a sense of community spirit.
At the Day Hab Picnic, all of our Day Hab sites gathered for a gorgeous afternoon of food, music, dancing, and games. From lawn games to line dancing, the joy was contagious and the memories priceless. Over at the Residential Picnic, the fun continued with residents and team members enjoying their own festive Day of Disney celebration, music, and togetherness.
These events would not be possible without the incredible dedication of our staff. A huge shoutout to team members Billie Jo Adsmond and Kathy Heller for going above and beyond year after year to make these picnics such a success. Your energy and heart are the magic behind it all! And of course, no party is complete without music! A big thank you to DJ Erick Santana, who kept the vibes high and the dance floor alive with his infectious beats and joyful energy.
| | Abilities First Golf & Tennis Classic: Driving Impact Together | | |
Sunshine, sports, and serious generosity! The 2025 Abilities First Golf & Tennis Classic at the beautiful Powelton Club was one for the books! On September 18th, more than 150 players and supporters came together to play hard, give big, and celebrate the mission of Abilities First.
Together, we generated essential funding that’s already at work improving the lives of over 1,400 children and adults with disabilities throughout the Hudson Valley. That means more access to education, job training, community inclusion, and so much more.
“Your generosity doesn’t just fund programs—it funds peace of mind, confidence, and brighter futures,” said CEO Dr. Jeffery Fox.
Guests enjoyed a full day of golf and tennis, a delicious breakfast, on-the-go lunch, a vibrant reception, and a silent auction packed with everything from vacation getaways to sports experiences and one-of-a-kind items. Everyone left with one special gift: a "Person in Your Pocket" keepsake—featuring someone supported by Abilities First—reminding us all why this day matters.
Huge appreciation to our Presenting Sponsors: DVM Industries (Golf). Feldman, Kleidman, Collins & Sappe LLP (Tennis). And a heartfelt shoutout to Peter Setaro, our outgoing Board Chair and Event Co-Chair, for his years of leadership and passion. You’ve made a lasting impact!
