We regret to inform our residents that our traditional Independence Day Fireworks Display and Celebration, which has been a cherished event in the Village of Palmetto Bay since 2014, has been cancelled this year.
One of the property owners who has graciously allowed the Village to use their property for this annual event, has notified us that they expect construction on their property to be underway by the beginning of July. Without that large parcel just north of Palmetto Station, the Village cannot safely organize the Independence Day Fireworks Display and Celebration.
The Fire Marshal requires our fireworks contractor to organize the ground into a designated launch zone, a spectator zone and a safety/buffer zone and there is simply not enough land to make the geometry of all that work with what would likely be a crowd of 10,000 or more people.
When the Village was notified about the unavailability of that land, we looked for alternatives. We investigated moving the fireworks display and celebration to the Deering Estate, Black Point Marina and elsewhere, but no other option will work, at least not this year with such short notice. We also investigated replacing the fireworks display with a drone show, but the cost difference was significant, and it was not certain that we would be able to secure a reputable firm on such short notice.
The Independence Day Celebration is the best attended of our many fabulous community events. Residents love it, our hard-working staff who organize it and clean-up afterwards love it, and it reflects well on the Village. We will continue to explore other options in an effort to bring back the event in the next year.
We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our event sponsors. All sponsors listed below had already committed funds and/or resources to the event.
