About You!
Putting the Spotlight on CTRs
|
|
To celebrate National Cancer Registrars Week (NCRW), ERS is launching a new series called, “About You!” which will highlight the personal story and experience of a different CTR every few weeks. As the name suggests, this is “About You” - the CTRs who make up the cancer registry community.
We’re kicking off this series with Michael Serwint, MD, a CTR at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. His story embodies the special role that the cancer registry community plays in cancer care.
If you know of a CTR who deserves recognition or if you are a Cancer Center leader who would like to give a shout out to an outstanding CTR, please reach out and let us know. Upon getting permission with the CTR’s leadership, Sally Kruse, CTR, a legend in her own right, will follow up with a wide-ranging interview and a summary article representing her discussion.
These interviews will be available on the ERS website and also posted on Facebook. The featured individual with the greatest number of “likes” on Facebook will receive a prize at the end of the year! If you're not already following us on Facebook, please make sure to click "Like" our page while you're there!
This is your opportunity to engage and highlight a community that often doesn’t get recognized – and have some fun while doing it.

Industry News
Staging After Neoadjuvant Treatment for Solid Tumors
|
From "CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians"
Until recently, cancer registries have only collected cancer clinical stage at diagnosis, before any therapy, and pathological stage after surgical resection, provided no treatment has been given before the surgery, but they have not collected stage data after neoadjuvant therapy (NAT). Because NAT is increasingly being used to treat a variety of tumors, it has become important to make the distinction between both the clinical and the pathological assessment without NAT and the assessment after NAT to avoid any misunderstanding of the significance of the clinical and pathological findings.

April Tip of the Month
Dashboard Analytics - KPI at a Glance!
|
|
This month’s tip of the month focuses on CRStar’s Dashboard Analytics. There are fifteen different Dashboard reports available in CRStar. The reports focus on key performance indicators for both cancer registry managers and administrators.
Dashboards provide a data visualization tool to allow users to understand analytics that matter to the cancer registry and the entire cancer program. The dashboard reports compile data that enable the user to visualize trends and circumstances.
|
|
|
|
The administrative dashboard reports consist of in and out migration trends, market shares and referral pattern reports. Registry dashboards allow managers to quickly and easily monitor productivity, incidence reporting, anticipated caseloads and CoC quality measure compliance.
Each of the fifteen dashboard reports can be customized to time periods, the facilities to be included, and which users have access to the reports. Dashboards are a must have for busy managers and administrators!
If you are not currently taking advantage of your dashboards to monitor key performance indicators, submit a CRStar Helpdesk ticket and one of our Client Advocate Specialists will be happy to help!

Data Warehouse Projects
How the Cancer Registry Can Play a Role in Patient Quality of Care and Outcomes
|
Does your cancer program have a data warehouse project? If the answer is yes, are they utilizing cancer registry data? If not, they should be and we can help automate the process!
A data warehouse is a shared database that collects, integrates and stores data from a variety of sources including EMR, radiology, radiation, and lab data, as well as data from non clinical sources, such as financial data. The combined data can then be utilized to enhance data quality and consistency. The data are used for an assortment of health system and cancer program projects such as clinical trials, research, treatment analysis and financial decisions.
Cancer registry data can be more reliable than other sources and the level of detail it can provide is very helpful to researchers and clinicians. Data can be exported from your CRStar solution and imported into the data warehouse. This process can be automated so the same report and export is generated on a routine and regular basis.
Would you like to learn more about data warehouse projects and how your cancer registry can play an integral role in research and clinical decisions? Click the Let’s Talk button and schedule a call with Melanie Rogan, CTR, Director of Registry Services and Todd Carter, Manager, Technology and Implementation Services.
