Report by the Trust for Public Land: Parks: The Great Unifiers
The Trust for Public Land published a report this month ranking the park systems in the 100 most populous US cities. The report shares data highlighting the omni-partisan nature of parks, the power of parks to bring people of different beliefs together, and how parks can spark civic engagement. For example, in a survey conducted by the Trust for Public Land, over half of respondents reported that they had a conversation with someone from a different social or economic background at a park.

SCDRP is an incubator network housed under the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Association (SECOORA). SECOORA is one of eleven Regional Associations in NOAA's Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). Federal funding cuts recently proposed by the Executive Branch would eliminate next year's budget for IOOS. The work of SCDRP is financially sustained by SECOORA with federal funds through the IOOS Program; eliminating the IOOS program will disable SECOORA's ability to fund SCDRP.
Learn more about the proposed cuts and you can help here.

2025: Gulf Sea Level Variation and Rise Grants
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Gulf Research Program (GRP) is committed to advancing scientific understanding of sea level variation and rise in the Gulf of America in order to support more accurate, actionable, and regionally relevant projections.
With Cycle II of the GSLVR Grant Program, GRP is seeking applications for interdisciplinary research projects that will refine projections of relative sea level rise in the Gulf region by improving the understanding of key physical processes and translating that knowledge into usable tools and information products. Proposed projects must demonstrate relevance to end users (federal agencies, state and local planners, resource managers, etc.) and should be designed to improve long-term planning, preparedness, and resilience to sea level hazards across the Gulf of America.
A total of up to $7 million is available for this funding opportunity. Funding will be awarded to support projects of up to five years in duration. The number of awards made will depend on the quantity, quality, and budgets of the applications received.

Sea Level Rise Report Cards Dashboard
Want to know how sea level in your area is changing due to global warming and other factors? Our 'report cards' can help. Updated by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science each year as annual tide-gauge data become available, they display recent sea-level trends and project sea-level height to the year 2050 for 35 localities along the U.S. East, Gulf, West, and Alaskan coasts.
SECART Sargassum Resource: NOAA’s Southeast and Caribbean Regional Team (SECART) is one of eight regional collaboration teams focused on coordinating and facilitating collaborations across NOAA’s line offices and partners to improve services provided to communities within the region. In 2023, reports of a Sargassum “blob” that was expected to wash up on beaches in U.S. states and territories made headlines. In response, SECART initiated a series of meetings to bring together NOAA personnel with expertise in Sargassum monitoring, response, and research. From this series of meetings came a number of actions including 1) creating an inventory of the NOAA offices, programs, and points-of-contact (POCs) that cover Sargassum, and 2) developing a series of products to further the coordination among the offices, programs, and POCs.
