ALIHS Journalism Feature

"The abandoned house still stands on top of a little hill just off 18th and Vine. A three storey building, red bricks, broken glass, boarded up windows, but still unmistakably Georgian revival. At the end of the 19th century, if you were passing by there, you would have heard them – little kids. It’s an orphanage…."

Cherry Arrival/Dismissal Reminders

As we start semester 2, it is a good time for some reminders.

With new procedures and improvements with the bus, we will no longer dismiss car riders, walkers, or K students quite so early. Official dismissal time is 4:00 pm, so we will start releasing students closer to that exact time. Please do not request/expect early release unless your child has a pre-arranged appointment and you call ahead and arrive to pick up by 3:30 pm.

  1. Please do not block the through lane on Cherry in the mornings. Buses must be able to get through. No parking/stopping in the bus lane. We have cones out on the north end of Cherry for the buses to park.
  2. Please respect the traffic pattern for car rider pickup on Kenwood in the afternoons. Parents should enter via Gillham from the west. Do not enter from the north and cut the line.
  3. Please respect our neighbors and do not park in front of their driveways or block their entry/exit. We have told them we support their right to call the police if cars are blocking their driveways.
  4. Please bring your blue number for pick up (car rider, gym or walker). It saves time and helps guarantee safety.

Thank you for your help making arrival and dismissal safe and efficient.

Have K-8 pictures from the 23-24 school year you would like to submit for the yearbook? Please email them to communication@academielafayette.org.

Parent Recruiters needed!

Académie Lafayette parent recruiters are needed to help the Admissions Department for the upcoming 24-25 school year. As a part of our strategic plan for diversity, the duties of the parent recruiters will be creating awareness, recruiting applicants from targeted zip codes, providing weekly updates, and tracking submissions. Parent recruiters will set their own hours. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Christy White, Director of Admissions & Community Outreach at cwhite@academielafayette.org or 816-702-9221.

Oak & Cherry Robotics: Last Week to Sign Up!

Enrollment is now open for the 3rd and 4th grade Robotics Club at both campuses. To enter your child in the lottery, please complete this form by midnight on January 14. Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated. You will be notified about whether or not your child was selected on January 15.

Sessions are tentatively set to begin the week of January 29 and will run for seven weeks, concluding the week of March 11. The specific day each club meets will depend on volunteer availability. The club fee is $75, and scholarships are available for those in need.

New Students Only: Apply to Reserve Your Child's Sibling Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 9th grade seat

Please note this only applies to new siblings not currently enrolled at Académie Lafayette. All current pre-K-11th grade students will re-enroll in Tyler at a later date.

Sibling seats: to be fair and transparent with all prospective families, we want to be able to tell them how many seats are available and how many seats will be taken by siblings. Your help is essential. If you have a new incoming child or sibling entering in the fall of 2024, please apply here now until Friday, March 1st, 2024 for the 24-25 school year. The process will take you less than one minute! Sibling applications received after the deadline will be placed on the waiting list. For additional information click here.

Questions? Email enrollment@academielafayette.org. After you complete your child's application, share with your friends and neighbors wanting to join the AL family!
