Community Meeting Highlights

Dear AL Community,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual Community Meeting on January 22 at the Cherry campus. It was a meaningful evening of conversation, reflection, and shared commitment to the future of Académie Lafayette. For families who were unable to attend, the full meeting recording is available on our YouTube channel.

  • School Start Times: We reviewed the rationale for the adjusted school hours beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, including transportation improvements, protecting instructional time, alignment with metro-area schools, and better support for student activities, jobs, and family responsibilities. Thank you to the many families who completed the feedback form. Your input is directly informing before- and after-school care planning.

  • Bond Projects Update: Families received an update on progress across our Bond commitments, including completed roof and field projects, ongoing HVAC work, and upcoming projects currently in the RFP phase. It was exciting to highlight how these improvements directly support safe, high-quality learning environments across all campuses.

  • Teacher Visas and Immigration: We provided an overview of current and anticipated immigration challenges impacting international teachers, including recent and potential federal policy changes. We remain actively engaged in supporting our educators and planning carefully to minimize disruption for students.

  • IB Career-related Program: Updates were shared on the IB Career-related Program, including continued partnerships with Manual Tech and expanded career and technical education opportunities for all high school students.

We are grateful for the thoughtful questions, feedback, and partnership from our families. These conversations help strengthen Académie Lafayette and ensure we continue moving forward with clarity, care, and purpose.

Stay warm and have a great weekend.

Reminder for Oak Families

In an effort to be a good neighbor, Académie Lafayette is requesting families that have chosen to have their students walk home but are meeting their student(s) at the Armour Hills Garden Fountain Park at the intersection of 69th street, Grand avenue, and Rockhill road to stop meeting their students there.

The Armour Hills Homes Association maintains the park and apparently the Homes Association has camera footage of our students damaging the park’s structures. While Académie Lafayette cannot prohibit your meeting there, we will assist the Armour Hills Homes Association in identifying any persons associated with our school who are involved in destruction or damage to our neighbors’ park.

Let us all strive to be good citizens and neighbors going forward. If you are meeting at the park, please make sure your student(s) are behaving and not involved in destructive behaviors.

Summer School 2026

Summer School will be held from Monday, June 8 to Wednesday, July 8. No school on 6/19 and 7/3. Summer School is open to all 26-27 K-8 students. Summer School enrollment information will be shared at a later date. Stay tuned!

Cold Weather Reminders

As colder weather sets in, we want to emphasize the importance of ensuring children are dressed appropriately for outdoor activities. Fresh air and physical activity are vital for students’ health and well-being, even during the colder months. Please help us by sending your child to school with weather-appropriate clothing, such as warm coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and sturdy shoes or boots. Outdoor clothing does not have to follow the AL dress code. Our school policy adjusts outdoor recess schedules based on the wind chill to ensure safety:

  • Recess will be shortened if the wind chill is 20℉ or below.
  • Recess will be indoors only if the wind chill is 10℉ or lower.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe, comfortable, and healthy.
