It's All Thanks to You

Dear AL Community,

We are thrilled to share that, thanks to the incredible effort of our AL families, students, and community, we have already reached $100,000 toward our 2025 Raffle fundraising goal—a full week early! Parents are sharing links far and wide, students are hosting booths and going door-to-door, and your enthusiasm is making a real difference. One kind-hearted donor even gave $280 after seeing a post shared on Instagram by a parent they had never met!

Some Raffle highlights that make our hearts so full:

  • M. Meunier’s 5th grade class at Cherry has reached 100% participation.
  • Our current top earner at Armour, a 9th grader, is set to receive at least $867 back toward their international trips fund.
  • A community member who saw an AL yard sign not only donated but encouraged others to do the same—reminding us that education is a cause everyone can get behind.

These funds are critical to the success of our schools. Our Annual Fund supports building maintenance, classroom supplies, clubs and extracurriculars, safe transportation, and bringing talented international staff and their families to Kansas City. It’s because of you—through donations, volunteering, advocacy, and everyday support—that this unique public educational experience remains available to any student across KC.

Thank you for showing up daily and making a difference in the lives of every AL student.

Have a great weekend.

$10,000 Cash Raffle: Rockstar Status!

UNBELIEVABLE! With an entire week of fundraising to go, students have already raised $12,232 over our goal!! We know they still have more determination in them, so we have made a stretch goal of $120,000 by 10/24. To honor their spectacular success, all campuses have earned a casual day on Friday, 10/24!

Raffle t-shirts are extra special this year since they were designed by students, so we have extended the deadline to qualify for a free shirt to Sunday, 10/19! If students sell physical tickets this weekend, they need to turn this money into the front office Monday morning in order for those sales to count towards their t-shirt qualification.

Quick correction! An email went out earlier today stating that students needed to raise $300 by this evening to qualify for the $300 Worlds of Fun/Great Wolf Lodge gift card. The correct amount is $200 by this evening to qualify!

There is still time to sign-up for a ticket booth slot or grab some physical tickets to sell! Tickets can be picked up, and turned in, at any campus front office. Need tickets this weekend? Email astewart@academielafayette.org.

FINAL Week Deadlines & Prizes:

  • Sell $50 from 10/17–10/24 for a chance a $25 Mildred's gift card.

AL Insights

Cherry Book Fair

Cherry will be welcoming the Scholastic Book Fair October 27-31. Preview week is October 20-24. Parents may accompany their student during their designated library class time that week.  (Parents if you do plan to come- please bring ID and check in at the front office.) Book Fair will be open during Parent-Teacher conferences (11 am-7 pm on 10/30 and 8 am-4 pm on 10/31).

This year we will have French and English titles. Please set up an e-wallet for the easiest way to pay. If you do send cash, please talk with your student(s) about what they would like to purchase, so they come to the Book Fair with the correct amount of money. (Remember, tax is 9.975%, so add 10% to the total amount of the cost of the books.)

We need volunteers to help throughout the book fair- you can sign up here. We will also need help to set up the week before- if you're available, please email Mme Sinkhorn: tsinkhorn@academielafayette.org. Thank you for making the Cherry Book Fair a success!

Oak Book Fair

Get ready to stock up on stories! We're changing things up this year and have partnered with Rainy Day Books to bring the book fair to Oak. Come shop a curated selection of books (French & English) and support both our school and our local independent bookseller.

Shopping hours in the Oak library:

  • Tuesday, 10/28 8 am to 4 pm
  • Wednesday, 10/29 8 am to 5 pm with a special appearance & signing by local author Charlie Mylie for his new book "We Are Already Haunting Here" from 3:30 to 5pm (come by after the Halloween parade!)
  • Thursday, 10/30 11 am to 7 pm. This is a parent/teacher conference day, but if your conferences aren't until Friday please plan to swing by as Rainy Day will be packing up on Friday.

E-Wallet: please click here to set up an e-wallet for your child if you don't plan on attending but want your child to be able to purchase books. They'll be given paper "book bucks" to spend at the fair.

Bonus Perk: With every purchase, get 10% off at Front Range Coffee — perfect for reading fuel!

Support a Cause: 15% of all sales go to AL! Help make a difference while building your library. French and English titles available.

Email schieber.elizabeth@gmail.com if you're interested in volunteering.

Booster Club Update

The Athletic Booster Club is getting off the ground! Please join fellow parents and AL athletics supporters for a meeting at 6:30 pm on October 23, 2025 at the Waldo public library, 201 E. 75th Street. Our goal for the meeting is to finalize the club's bylaws and to elect our first set of officers. We need your energy and ideas as we work to support our many fantastic sports teams. Please join us!

ALIHS Students Tour Colleges

On October 8th and 9th, nineteen 11th graders joined ALIHS staff on an overnight college tour of mid-Missouri. Students visited Columbia College and the University of Missouri in Columbia, along with Lincoln College in Jefferson City.

A highlight of the trip was meeting up with seven of our alumni at Shakespeare's Pizza. Yassi, Emily, Micah, Jean, and Fischer (class of 2025), and Sam and Akiram (class of 2024) shared their college experiences with our current students over a slice.

Update: MO SUN Bucks

In our 10/3 newsletter, we stated that SUN Bucks cards could be donated. That information was incorrect, and we want to clarify to avoid further confusion.

The Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) has informed Académie Lafayette that eligible families who receive SUN Bucks cards can choose to use the cards. The cards are valid for 122 days. SUN Bucks cards cannot be donated. Click here to access the Frequently Asked Questions page.

We apologize for any misunderstanding. Please note that Académie Lafayette staff are not administrators of this program and will not be able to provide additional assistance. If you believe that your family was not eligible for these benefits, please email FSD.IM.SEBT@dss.mo.gov.

FoxTrot 5K Run

Mark your calendars for Saturday morning, November 15, and get ready to run!

The high school is hosting its first annual "FoxTrot 5K Run" to benefit student international travel programs. Come out and support AL's mission to provide real-life global learning experiences. Register to run or make a donation here.

Adopt an AL Family for the Holidays

The holidays are still three months away, but it is never too early to start organizing our annual adopt-a-family program. Please complete this form to let the social workers know how many family members you are willing to adopt. Typically, each family member receives presents or a gift card valued at $50. The deadline is Friday, October 17, and this link will be closed. Thank you for supporting our community!

AL PTO Events

Boo Bayou

Boo Bayou is an annual family party for everyone in the AL community, hosted by AL PTO. While most of the activities are designed for K-5th grade students, all families are welcome to attend. MS Mixer

It's dance time! All middle schoolers are invited to the Fall Mixer on Oct. 25 from 6-8:30 pm in the Armour gym. There will be a DJ, snacks and Haunted Hallway (more details coming soon). Tickets are $5 for the dance. We need volunteers to make sure everyone stays safe and has fun. Please sign up to chaperone. Parents from all campuses are welcome as volunteers.
