from the Head of School
Dear AL Families,
You may be aware of a few studies about how the Covid 19 situation has negatively impacted student learning nationwide. We are happy to report that the Fall NWEA tests taken by our students earlier this semester show that AL students have grown in ELA and science but lost the equivalent of a week of instruction in math. All these growths are a fall-to-fall measure and are compared to historical/typical growth across the country and not to growth of others in this past year with a lot of virtual instruction. This showed us that our online learning program is effective and that our summer school make-up session was helpful. However, we did notice a gap between students based on socioeconomic status and ethnicity. We are working with each building and grade level team to provide necessary support for each student. I strongly urge parents to fully support the school's efforts by making sure students attend their regularly scheduled classes as well as utilize office hours to benefit from the academic support provided by the teachers. If you need help, please contact your campus social worker.
Last, our new Student Information System, Tyler, launched today! Each parent should have received an email with instructions on how to log in and set up their password. You can access the portal from the front page of our website. Please note that we switched from trimesters to semesters. The first semester will end on January 15 and report cards are set to be sent home on January 22. If you need an update on how your child is doing before then, please email your child's teacher directly.
Have a great weekend,
Elimane Mbengue
Head of School

ALIHS Incoming 9th & 1oth grade
Dear current 9th and 8th grade parents,
The timeline of enrollment for Académie Lafayette International High School has changed to ensure we have the appropriate staffing and course offering available for our students. As of 2020-2021 the intent to return form is required to be submitted between December 2020 and February 22nd 2021. This will allow your student to participate in choosing their class schedule for the 2021-2022 school year in the spring. It will still be required to complete full re-enrollment during the summer. This requirement and other changes we may implement will continue as we grow our ALIHS student population. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

To protect our children from scammers, we made the decision to block student emails from receiving or sending emails out of our domain. This is the only way we can protect our vulnerable students from those unwanted scammers and also others. Students can send email and receive email from anyone who has an Académie Lafayette email but will not receive an email if you do not have an AL email address. Thank you for your understanding.
