Your Guide to AL’s AMI Days

Dear AL Community,

The Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) requires all school districts to adopt an AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) plan for snow days. AMI days help us continue learning while avoiding long breaks in instruction. Our school AMI plan states that the first inclement weather day will be a free "snow day" and any future days will be AMI days. Our free “snow day” was on 12/2. Below is what families can expect at each grade level.

K-5: Work packets will be sent home beforehand and also shared on Google Classroom. Specials teachers (Art, Music, PE, Computer) will share a one-page Choice Board of activities. On the AMI day, teachers will send an email with assigned pages, share any needed digital resources, and be available from 10:00–11:00 am via Google Meet. Students should complete one activity from each subject and must turn in completed work when they return to school so they can be counted as “present”.

Middle School: Work will be posted on Toddle. Students may email questions anytime and teachers will respond until 4:00 pm. Work must be turned in to be counted present. Completion of the formative task will count as attendance. Teachers will hold online office hours by subject:

10:30–11:00 – French

11:00–11:30 – Math

11:30–12:00 – English

12:00–12:30 – Science

12:30–1:00 – Social Studies

High School: Lessons will be posted by 9:00 am in Toddle including a formative task which will count for a grade. Completion of the formative task will count as attendance. Teachers will respond to emails until 4:00 pm. Google Meet help sessions for all subjects will be held from 2:00–3:00 pm.

Special Education: teachers will send differentiated work aligned to IEP goals. For multiple AMI days in a row, SpEd teachers will be available online to support students and families.

Thank you for your support as we aim to minimize the impact of weather on our students’ learning.

Have a great weekend.

All items will be donated on 12/19/25.

Merci!

Wanted: Ping Pong Tables

One of our Armour Friday Middle School clubs is looking for 3 ping pong tables. If you know someone who’s getting rid of one, please reach out to Wes Willett at wwillett@academielafayette.org to arrange pick-up or drop-off. Help us bring some fun to our students!

Cherry Library Request

The Cherry library is in need of picture book donations. Also, please help your students return their books before break. If they return their books, their Class Dojo account will receive a responsibility point. We could also use gallon size Ziploc type bags to help keep most of our books dry.

From the Nurses

We are seeing active cases of head lice in our community, and we ask that families check student's heads. Lice can affect all hair types and are not related to hair length, cleanliness, race, or ethnicity.

Lice do not jump or fly—they spread mainly through direct head-to-head contact. Spread from items like hats, brushes, or pillows is much less common, and lice cannot be transferred to or from pets. Checking with a fine-tooth lice comb is the most accurate way to find live lice or nits, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.

If lice are found, start treatment right away! CDC-recommended treatment includes using an FDA-approved lice shampoo, carefully combing out nits every 1–2 days for 2 weeks, washing clothing and bedding used in the last 48 hours in hot water and high heat, and sealing non-washable items for 2 weeks. All household members should be checked.

If you have any questions or have found lice and need a nit comb, please contact the nurse at your child's campus. Click here for more information. Thank you for helping us keep our school community lice-free!

Help AL, Complete a Meal Application

Every family must complete an application, regardless of income level. Your completed application has the potential to increase our funding opportunities. Every family that fully completes and submits a 2025-2026 Meal Application will be entered into a drawing for one of four $25 gift cards on 12/19.

Just a note that, as of December 1, any carried-over free and reduced meal statuses from the 2024-2025 school year has been reset. If your family would like to receive free or reduced meal benefits for the 2025-2026 school year, please take a moment to submit a new application.

Questions or concerns, please contact DeAnn Gould, dgould@academielafayette.org.

New Students Only: Apply to Reserve Your Child's Sibling Pre-K, Kindergarten, First Grade, and High School Seat

If you have a new incoming child or sibling entering in the fall of 2026, please apply here starting November 8 until March 1st, 2026 for the 26-27 school year. The process will take you less than one minute! Sibling applications received after the deadline will be placed on the waiting list. For additional information, click here.

Please note this only applies to new siblings not currently enrolled at AL. All current pre-K-11th grade students will re-enroll at a later date. Remember All 8th grade students have a guaranteed 9th grade seat at ALIHS. When re-enrollment opens in January make sure to let us know if you want to reserve your ALIHS seat.

Questions? Email enrollment@academielafayette.org. After you fill out your child's application, share with your friends and neighbors wanting to join the AL family!
