Le Journal

from the Head of School

Thank You!

Dear AL Families,

2020 was a year like no other in our lifetime. The COVID-19 outbreak that shook the world significantly altered our lives and the way we educate our children. Despite social distancing and at-home learning, our community still managed to work together, from meal packages to small learning pods, volunteers distributing lunches, parents sharing resources, time, and money. You never cease to amaze me. I cannot thank you enough for continuing to support our school community despite the challenges.

I would like to congratulate our students for a successful first semester in a particularly challenging learning environment. I am impressed by their resilience and their hard work. I am also grateful for the great job our teachers and staff have been doing. I would like to thank them wholeheartedly for their dedication, flexibility, and availability to our students and families.

Despite the encouraging results of the Fall NWEA tests, we fully understand that the current online learning model is not ideal to serve the needs of all learners. That is why we will continue to investigate ways to support our most at-risk students and to see how we can get back to in-person learning as soon as possible in a safe and healthy environment.

Thank you for your invaluable support. I wish all of you a very safe and happy holiday season.

"Bon Voyage!" Mme Diane

Dear AL Families,

We are sad to announce that Diane Balagna is leaving the Cherry campus team after 11 years.  She was originally the coordinator of  the kindergarten program when A.L. started their auxiliary site at Keystone Methodist church, and then became office manager at the Cherry campus when it opened 9 years ago.  Parents know her as the first person they met when enrolling their kids and the point person for so many tasks and responsibilities. We do not have space to include all the hats she has worn in her tenure at our school.  She will be missed, but we wish her well as she takes on a new adventure-  Nursing School!

We will begin the search for a new building manager for Cherry, but in the meantime-  you may contact Sarah LaGrece, receptionist, or Heather Royce, principal with questions or needs.

Again- please join me in wishing Mme Diane "bon voyage!"

Heather Royce
Cherry Principal

Mme Diane says Au RevoirAR

Dear Académie Lafayette Community,

In January I will leave AL to begin nursing school. I will miss you all very much, but I believe this is where I can do the most good in the world right now.

Thank you for your kindness, support, and encouragement. It's been a privilege to serve our community for the last 11 years.

I wish you all the best!
Diane Balagna

Reasons to give to AL's Annual FundReasons

There are many reasons to give to AL's  Annual Fund in 2020: Here's a little extra incentive.
The school's annual fund helps us cover our everyday expenses for our students.  Any donation received as part of the Annual Fund is an investment supporting the best educational program and providing resources to the school to meet current needs at our campuses and provide a world-class education for our students. More information and the link to donate online can be found here.
Académie Lafayette, like other schools and nonprofits worldwide, is in need of donations right now even as the economic impact of the pandemic wears on and makes some would-be donors question whether they can afford to give. The universal charitable deduction enacted this year provides a potential incentive, allowing the opportunity to claim a tax break of up to $300 when filing taxes in 2021 when donating by 12/31/20 to eligible organizations, of which Académie Lafayette is one.
We share this information with you knowing that donations are not about a tax play and that a tax deduction is not motivation to give, but this may give some the ability this year. Detailed information from the IRS can be found here, and of course, talk to a tax professional for advice and to answer any questions related to tax deductions for your household.

ALIHS Incoming 9th & 1oth gradealihszoom

Dear current 9th and 8th grade parents,
The timeline of enrollment for Académie Lafayette International High School has changed to ensure we have the appropriate staffing and course offering available for our students. As of 2020-2021 the intent to return form is required to be submitted between December 2020 and February 22nd 2021. This will allow your student to participate in choosing their class schedule for the 2021-2022 school year in the spring. It will still be required to complete full re-enrollment during the summer. This requirement and other changes we may implement will continue as we grow our ALIHS student population. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
