Dear Académie Lafayette Community
As you know, Académie Lafayette is committed to providing an excellent education in a diverse and supportive environment that promotes inclusion and equity for all learners.
I am pleased to announce that Académie Lafayette has been awarded a $1.5 million grant by SchoolSmartKC to support our K-12 expansion and our intentional effort to increase the school's socio-economic diversity by serving more disadvantaged students.
Adopted by the AL board of directors in November 2016, our K-12 growth plan is the product of five years of thoughtful planning and is comprised of three phases:
-
Phase 1: Increase the number of quality seats in kindergarten from 120 to 198, while aggressively recruiting minority and free and reduced lunch eligible students;
-
Phase 2: Open an International Baccalaureate Program high school with a strong STEAM and language component; and
-
Phase 3: Build a gymnasium and an auditorium to complete our vision of a world-class educational institution in Kansas City.
Over the last two years, AL has raised $6 million from local and national philanthropic organizations and the federal government to help fund the K-12 growth plan. With this plan, Académie Lafayette will become the largest French immersion school in the country, successfully educating around 1,900 students.
Please join me in extending our gratitude to SchoolSmartKC and to all philanthropic organizations that have generously invested in the future of Académie Lafayette and its mission to educate the children of Kansas City to become globally minded, locally active, critical thinkers.
Have a wonderful Holiday Break!
