School Updates

Dear AL Community,

February is usually the most active winter weather month in Kansas City. The past few weeks have been tough but the forecast is looking much warmer as soon as next week. It won't be long before summer is here! We know that families need to make plans and would like to share our Summer School dates with you:
  • First session: Wed, June 16 - Friday, July 2
  • Second session: Wed, July 7 - Friday, July 23
School will be closed July 5th and 6th (4th of July Break) as well as from July 26th to August 17th. At this time, we plan to offer bus service and after-school care through Upper Room. Summer school will be an opportunity to make up learning loss related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, we strongly encourage students to attend both sessions. The delayed Summer School start will allow teachers and students to rest after a very taxing year.

You can click here to view the 2021-2022 school calendar that was approved at the February board meeting.

We are excited to have our 7th and 8th graders back in the building next week! As always, please take a few minutes to review our safety protocols before heading back.

Last but not least, I would like to announce that AL has hired Celia Liptak as our development director. Please join me in welcoming her to our wonderful school community.

Have a restful weekend.

Elimane Mbengue
Head of School
