School Updates

Dear AL Families,

On March 12, 2020, Académie Lafayette canceled in-person school and switched to online learning due to the spread of COVID19 in the region. Little did we know at that time about the rollercoaster of challenges that our students, families, staff, and teachers were about to embark on and the many tests of patience and resiliency ahead.

A year later, we are very happy that our teachers and staff will finally be able to get vaccinated on March 22, thanks to SchoolAppKC and our nurses. In order to accommodate this vaccination event, March 22nd will be a pre-recorded virtual learning day for all students. Teachers will post their lessons on their Google Classrooms (or website for K) and students will be able to work at their own pace to watch the videos and do the assessments.

We will still be operating under Phase II of our reopening plan, hybrid model (2 days a week) or online learning when we return. We are actively planning to switch to Phase III (4 days a week for all in-person students or online) sometime after Spring Break. We do not have a set date for moving to Phase III at this time but will keep you informed of any new development.

As announced last week, the Conseil d'Ecole will be coordinating the election process for parents who would like to join the AL board of directors. The online election will take place in early May. More information will be shared next week and parents who wish to participate in the election will be invited to send their candidatures.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Have a great Spring Break! Bonnes vacances!

ArrivalDoors open on Kenwood (the east side of the building) at 8:15 and school starts at 8:30. If you wish to park and walk your child to the doors, please use the church parking lot on Kenwood. You may also use the drop off lane and remain in your car while your child exits the vehicle.

DismissalDismissal begins at 3:30. Bus riders and Upper Room students are dismissed first, then we start the car rider line. If you are using the car rider line, please follow the line of cars around the school towards Kenwood. Again, please be patient with the construction on Cherry and consider accessing drop off and pick up on Kenwood via Gillham Road. Need a car rider sign? Please call ahead (816-888-7400) and come by the office.

After-School CareAfter-school care will be provided by the Upper Room in the cafeteria at the Cherry building. For more information, please contact the Upper Room directly at 816-363-3819.

UniformsStudents should be in uniform on in-person days. Our school's uniform policy can be found hereIf you need help obtaining uniforms or would like to access the uniform closet, please contact Ms. Sheila Baskin, [email protected].

Health and SafetyIf you have questions, please contact the school nurse- Alexis Russell at Cherry and Alexis Cook at Oak.

SAFETY ALERTMorning parents- if the line is too long for drop-off, or your child needs a little more time and help to get out of the car, you are welcome to park in the church parking lot on the east side of Kenwood and escort your child across the street there. Please do NOT park on the street and cross between cars in the drop-off line.    Anyone walking up needs to cross by the church parking lot.

Thank you for your support as we work to safely reopen school.
