School Updates

Dear AL Community,

We are ready to see all of our in-person students at once on Thursday, April, 15th. Remember that this upcoming Monday and Tuesday are virtual learning days with prerecorded classes due to the second Covid19 vaccine clinic for our teachers and staff. Wednesday is online with live classes, regular schedule.

On Tuesday, April 27th, we will begin administering the Missouri State Assessment (MAP) required by DESE. We hope that all our students will participate so that we can measure their progress and develop a comprehensive plan to address any learning gap. The test will be onsite only. Therefore, we strongly urge parents who chose the online only model to coordinate with the school so that all our students are given the opportunity to take the state test.

Have a great weekend.

Cherry Reopening Updates

We are excited to welcome all our in-person students back to the building for 4 days beginning April 15. Remember school starts at 8:30 am! Here are the important changes and updates. Please read carefully. Parent cooperation is the key to a successful return and safe arrival and dismissal.

1. Supplies- Student supplies can now be kept at school. Kids no longer have to carry the 20 pound backpacks back and forth every day. Your child's teacher will share more information about how backpacks, cubbies and desks will be organized-  but it's great to know that supplies can stay at school. (Chromebooks for 3rd-4th grade should still go home and return to school each day.)

2. Arrival- We will open both sets of doors (Cherry and Kenwood) in the morning at 8:15 am in order to accommodate the extra cars. IMPORTANT-  Make sure your child is ready to exit the car before you pull up-  have backpacks and masks ready. Please do not wait for staff to open the car door.

If you plan to drop off on Cherry-  you must pull up and wait behind the buses until they depart at approximately 8:15. Stay in a single file line and be patient. When you pull away from the curb-  please continue straight onto Cherry or turn left to return to Gillham. (Do not join the line of cars waiting to drop off on Kenwood.)

** For parents whose kids need more time, or for parents who do not want to wait in the drop off line-  you are welcome to park in the church parking lot and walk your child across the street to enter at the Kenwood doors. PLEASE enter and exit the parking lot from Armour to avoid contributing to the congestion.

3. Dismissal- We strongly encourage families who live close to Cherry to be walkers. The fewer cars, the better.

Buses will be dismissed first, then K-3 car riders will continue with the current car rider line on Kenwood. Please have your car rider sign visible for our team and make sure your child knows her/his number.

IMPORTANT NEW PROCEDURE FOR 4TH GRADERS AND SIBLINGS-  We are instituting a new car rider line in the Church Parking Lot. 4th graders (and younger siblings) will be dismissed to the gym and then escorted to the church parking lot to wait for parents in a designated area. Those parents need to enter and exit from Armour. **Stay tuned for further instructions and a diagram or video for 4th grade parents.**

With extra cars and the continued construction on Cherry-  we expect arrival and dismissal to take a little extra time the first few days. Please be patient and help us keep kids safe. If we need to make adjustments to our process-  we will do that.

Thanks for your support.

A Word from the Armour Principal
Dear Armour Parents,

As we are gearing up to welcome more students in the building next week, I encourage each and every one of you to follow our car rider arrival and dismissal protocols.
  • 7:55 am: Doors open - Parents enter the parking lot on McGee (please go north on McGee to enter) and flow through the parking lot to drop off their children, exiting on Warwick. Students arriving past 8:15 am are considered tardy and will need to report to the front desk for a tardy slip before going to their classroom.
  • 3:15 pm: Bus riders and walkers are dismissed. Buses line up on Warwick. Parents enter the parking lot on McGee, pick up their children in the gated AL parking lot, and exit on Warwick.
  • 3:30 pm: Remaining students are brought to the office.
We know that roadwork around the school can be challenging. Please take a minute to read the diagram of the correct traffic flow as well as detour options to help you navigate the area.
