School Updates

Dear AL Community,

The parent-elect board member election ended on Wednesday and the results are out: Jennifer Goldman won with 61.4% of the votes. 228 parents cast a ballot, which represents 21% of our parent population. Thank you to all that read about the candidates, submitted questions for the forum, attended the PTO meeting (or listened to the recording), and participated in this school process.

If you have not had the opportunity to read our statement regarding UCM ending its sponsorship of all charter schools and our plan moving forward, please click here to do so.

Despite Covid-19 guidelines being updated at many levels around us, please understand that our reopening plan is still in place and that all students and staff members must wear a mask at school except when eating or drinking. We appreciate your continued support and diligence in that regard.

Have a great weekend.

Elimane Mbengue

No Charge for Meals 20/21 School Yearmeals

The AL Business Office has recently learned that as part of the Federal Covid Relief Package, we are able to provide free meals to all students, regardless of financial status, from October 2020 - June 2021. What does this mean?
  • No one will be charged for meals eaten October 1- June 30.
  • All meals eaten for the rest of this school year and session I of summer school will be tracked but nothing will be charged.
  • Meals eaten between November 1 - May 13 will be credited back to your child's account.  We are still working on the best way to do this so credits will take place in the coming weeks.
  • Any balance from previous years will be carried over to next school year.
  • Any payments made for summer lunch this year will be carried over to next school year.
  • If you have a balance due (negative balance) carried over from previous years we encourage you to continue paying that. The lunch payment button will continue to be on the AL website for this purpose.
  • If you did make a payment this year, do not have a balance due, and would like a refund, please contact Marcia Berry as soon as possible before the end of May, otherwise everything will carry over to next year.
Please direct any questions to Marcia Berry at mberry@academielafayette.org.
Thanks for your understanding.

If you have anything clean and not ripped or stained to donate please send it with your child to be dropped in the Oak or Armour school offices.

I am a parent volunteer and organize the Oak closet so if you have any particular needs (Cherry or Oak) I'm happy to look for you, sizes K-5.  sallyk1975@gmail.com

For 6th grade and up uniform needs, please contact Diane Rizzo who handles Armour. 816-729-7087 diane.rizzo@yahoo.com

Please be as specific as possible as to what you're wanting (size, color) and we will try to pack you a bag. If your child is at Oak on Thursdays let me know and I will deliver it to your child directly. Otherwise it will be left at the entrance of Oak with your name on it to be picked up during school hours before May 28th.

Please also encourage your kids to look through the lost and found area which is near the office or in the uniform closet. Stay tuned for more info on lost and found access for Oak parents the last week of school.

Greetings Académie Lafayette Parents,

Upper Room is happy to announce that we will be providing after-school care for Académie Lafayette's two summer school sessions: June 16 - July 2, 2021 and July 7 - July 23, 2021.

The program will run from the end of the school day until 6:00pm Monday through Friday.  Activities will include music, art, PE and games.  Due to this being a separate program from our school year after-school program, all families will need to complete an application, pay a $25 registration fee through PayPal, and complete and submit the automatic payment form even if you have completed an application earlier in the school year.  Fees will be a flat rate of $60 per week for the first child and $45 per week for each sibling.  Click here for additional information about the Summer After-school Program. Click here to register.
