From the HEad of School

Great Start to the 21-22 School Year!

Dear AL Community,

What a joy it was to see our students again! The buildings are alive: the students are back to speaking French with each other, the teachers have been planning for an exciting school year, and our staff working tirelessly in the background to smooth the traditional first week of school hiccups. We hope your student's week was as great as ours!

We are still facing staffing challenges related to the visa appointments of some of our teachers and interns. Fortunately, with the help of the Consulat General of France in Chicago, we were able to expedite the visa appointments for the teachers. We hope they will soon join our team.

As we are starting our third school year in the pandemic, we will be focusing on:
  • Prioritizing the health and safety of  our students, teachers, and staff
  • Supporting our students' social, emotional, and mental health.
  • Providing adequate support for our teachers and staff
  • Addressing the academic progress for each student based on the learning loss noticed throughout the country.
Thank you all for your strong support.
Have a great weekend!

Cherry Reminders

Hello Parents!

It was great to welcome back kids this week and to meet our new families. A few important reminders:
  • School starts at 8:15 am.  Doors do not open until 8:00 am.  Kids should remain with parents until then. Also starting Monday, please plan to say goodbye at the car or the school door. Kids should walk themselves to class.
  • Students are expected to be in uniform. Please see the policy on our website. I've seen lots of kids in blue pants or jumpers- which are not approved. If you need assistance, we have a uniform closet that is open to all families. Please contact Madame Sheila, our counselor, [email protected].
  • Students need to bring a water bottle every day.  Fountains are disabled for drinking and can only be used to fill water bottles.
We had some challenges at dismissal time and with the buses, but each day has gotten better. In order to improve and provide a safe and efficient dismissal-  we need to ask parents for help:
  1. School officially ends at 3:45 pm. We cannot accommodate parents who arrive early. If you have an appointment, please communicate that in advance and plan to arrive before 3:15 pm.
  2. Please communicate any dismissal changes before noon. Email the teacher AND call the front desk. Last minute changes are very difficult to accommodate. For permanent dismissal changes- please email the teacher and Maaria Riaz, [email protected].
  3. Please make sure to have your yellow sign when picking up. If you need a sign-  email Maaria Riaz.
  4. The front door at Cherry is for walkers. If you are arriving by car, please do not park and walk up to avoid the car rider line. It creates more parking and traffic problems- thus slowing down the process for everyone.
Thank you for your patience and consideration. I'm sure it sounds like a lot of rules and requests- but with 450 students, it is so important to have safe and consistent routines and procedures to make the school day go smoothly.

Have a great weekend!

Madame Royce
Cherry Principal
