from the head of school
Dear AL Community,
We had a great turnout at our Student Success Nights this week. It was so nice to see everyone, albeit virtually. We are thankful every day for your strong support of our teachers and staff. If you were unable to attend and have not yet received by email the recordings of the three sessions, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. As the AL Reopening Task Force continues its work, we would like to share a few important dates with you. The taskforce will meet to make a recommendation on whether AL will remain in phase I (all online) or move on to phase II of our reopening plan (hybrid + online) on Monday, September 21. The decision will depend on the situation of the pandemic in Kansas City. This gives us enough time to better assess the impact of the Labor Day weekend on the evolution of the Covid-19. If the decision is made to go to phase II, AL will hold town halls to present the individual building plans on the following days: -
September 22: Virtual Cherry meeting, 6 pm
-
September 23: Virtual Oak meeting, 6 pm
-
September 24: Virtual Armour meeting, 6 pm
In any case, please note that October 1 will be the earliest possible date for switching to phase II if adopted after recommendation by the reopening taskforce and if the reopening conditions in Kansas City are still favorable. Families will be notified of the September 21 decision through all-call, email, and social media by the next day. Have a fun and safe Labor Day weekend!
Elimane Mbengue Head of School

INFO SHARING
Kinsa FLUency program
Dear AL families,
As we approach the school year, the nursing and social work teams would like to help support your families as much as possible. This program is only available for our K-5 families. Académie Lafayette has once again been granted a spot in the Kinsa FLUency program for the 20-21 school year. This program, which normally starts in late September, has added a waitlist feature this year due to COVID-19 which allows families to sign up for the program early. The FLUency program gives one free Kinsa thermometer to interested families in the community and provides a community illness tracker in their app so families can see what illnesses are going around the school community. All personal information is kept completely private while notifying the broader AL community of communicable illnesses.
