From the Armour Principal

Armour News

Dear Families,

Armour Campus has had a great start to the school year, and we anticipate continued success for our students.

We greatly appreciate your high level of participation in Meet the Teacher Night, Student Success Night and your ongoing involvement with the school. As the new Armour Campus principal, I am touched by the warm welcome that I have received from a number of you and am very excited to have joined the AL community. I am looking forward to meeting more of you at our upcoming Parent-Principal Coffee.

At AL, we take pride in knowing our students, their level of mastery, and what supports they need. In turn, we work collaboratively to plan for how to address those needs. This week our students at Armour participated in the NWEA assessments in Math, ELA, and Science. The results from these assessments will inform next steps for instruction and learning. Continue to bring your child to school on time daily to ensure participation in every aspect of the learning experience. In addition, we urge your support in helping students comply with the uniform policy.

Please remember to attend the  Parent-Principal Coffee at the following campuses:
  • Oak Campus-September 10 at 7:30 a.m.
  • Cherry Campus-September 11 at 8:00 a.m.
  • Armour Campus-September 12 at 7:45 a.m.
  • Armour Campus--September 17--IB Parent Meeting at 5:30 p.m.
Have a safe and relaxing weekend!

Best Wishes,

Maritza Paul
Armour Principal

Board Communication:
High School ProjectBoardComm

Over the last 2 months, the Académie Lafayette school board and administration has been engaged in detailed discussions regarding the feasibility of opening a high school.  It is important to know that no final decision has been made, but within the next 30 days, the board anticipates making a decision on an opening date for the high school. The two options currently being discussed are opening the high school in either Fall of 2020 or Fall of 2021.

We understand the potential new high school program will raise many questions for our parents so we want to be sure everyone is well-informed throughout the process.  Once a decision has been made, a parent meeting will be hosted to answer all questions parents may have.

Thank you for your strong support of our school.

$10,000 Cash Raffle Ticket Sales Location Sign Up!raffle

Some of our students are already turning in raffle ticket proceeds and that's incredible! To give everyone an opportunity to be a part of the raffle,   here is a link  to a sign up sheet with locations where kids can sell tickets. Please remember that this is open to everyone, so please do not sign up for more than five shifts.

Tickets will not be available over the weekends. If you have signed up for a location, please see the front desk at each campus for additional tickets in advance. Please return any tickets that you do not believe will be sold to the school as soon as possible so that we may give them to someone else.

Remember that you can also have friends and family purchase tickets online on our website  here. Raffle rules and prize list are also available on that page.

For those that are new to AL, we have a raffle each year with the top prize being $10,000! Your child will be bringing home a packet with all of the information. The proceeds of the ticket sales benefit the annual fund which is used for books, technology, social workers, and many other things. While we hope that everyone will participate, it is not mandatory. Additional ticket will be available at the front desk of each campus.

A few important notes:
  • The early bird deadline to sell 20 tickets and win a 2019 AL Raffle t-shirt is September 18th.
  • The policy this year is that only this year's raffle shirts will be allowed on t-shirt Tuesdays.
  • All prizes will be delivered toward the end of the raffle so that we can get an accurate count of the items that we need to award.
Good luck!

From the AL NursesNurses

As we jump into the school year, the Health Rooms would like to remind parents of the importance of spot checking your child for lice and properly treating it at home (click here for instructions).  Click here you to find the AL lice procedure; please take a few moments to read it in it's entirety. We believe it will answer many of your questions regarding the way we deal with lice in our community.

How can I help prevent the spread of lice?
  1. A great way for parents to catch lice early and treat it effectively is to remember the saying "ONCE A WEEK, TAKE A PEEK". This means that once a week you should inspect your child's head in good lighting looking for evidence of an infestation, such as nits or live lice.
  2. If you do find an infestation, start treatment immediately by thoroughly combing the affected hair with a high quality nit comb.  We have excellent, reusable , metal nit combs available in the Nurse's office at each campus. Due to a generous grant, we are currently able to provide these at no charge.
  3. Keep your child's long hair tied back in a ponytail or a bun while at school.
  4. Educate your child to try to avoid head-to-head contact whenever possible as this is, by far, the most common form of transmission.
Please ALWAYS let the nurse at your campus know if your child has lice. This is an essential step in trending and tracking the prevalence of lice in our school and hopefully help us further target areas in which we can improve upon.
