Dear Colleagues,
Congratulations to each of you, for successfully teaching, mentoring and supporting another group of graduates through to their respective degrees. While attending the array of commencement and recognition ceremonies in mid-June, I could feel what an impact we have on the experiences of our students and what a joy it can be to share in their delight at graduating.
Congratulations, also, to the many of you who received honors, awards or professional advancement this year. And an especially warm “thank you” to those who were present to support those colleagues, cheering on their victories with grace and perseverance, at department meetings, award ceremonies, receptions or end-of-year gatherings.
It is always especially heartening to be a part of such celebrations – whether campus-wide events like the Hellman Fellowships celebration, the Inclusive Excellence Awards, the Distinguished Teaching Awards, and the Distinguished Research Awards, or local events for a department’s own faculty, staff, and students. Showing up to recognize the achievements of our colleagues helps create individual bonds with them, while also strengthening our underlying sense of community. These moments of celebration remind us all that, despite the challenges we’ve faced in recent years, UC San Diego remains a special place to work, to share, to learn, and to grow.
I hope during July and August you will have the refreshing opportunity to reflect on the past year, remember some of your recent accomplishments, and identify ways to support your colleagues in the year ahead.
Best wishes for a great summer,
Elizabeth H. Simmons

DCTG funds may be used to offset dependent care expenses at an alternate location, such as a hotel or research site, or for dependent care at home while the faculty member is traveling.
Summer 2023-2024 grant applications will be accepted for eligible expenses occurring between June 19, 2024 through September 6, 2024 via the Infoready application link found on the UCSD Internal Funding & Limited Submissions page for the program.
