As Graduate Student Senate Vice President, I am tasked with planning, implementing, and executing many of our Professional Development events (alongside our Chair for Professional Development, David M. Fisher). In 12 days, our first big event will be taking place: Professional Development Day for Graduate Students. Professional Development Day is an annual event put on by GSS to encourage graduate students to learn new skills, connect with peers and professionals, and build their network for when they begin looking for positions once they have their degree. With this being the first in-person program in three years, we are excited to bring back opportunities for students to do this.
We will begin with two pre-conference workshops (with a complimentary breakfast included): A SafeZone Workshop (facilitated by Dr. Katie Stygles in the Office of Multicultural Affairs) and Green Dot Training (facilitated by the Center for Women and Gender Equity). Following these morning sessions, we will hear from Jennifer McCary, Chief Diversity and Belonging Officer, about her experiences with being a graduate student while also working full-time. This will be followed with a Students and Professionals Networking Session, where students and professionals will be able to network with one another. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be provided. During our two afternoon sessions, students will be able to select from 6 professional development sessions, ranging in topics from boundary setting and mental health to resume and curriculum vitae workshops.
We are extremely excited for this event to take place. This is where we need your help – we want as many students to know about these opportunities as possible. Please share our flyer with your networks and invite as many students that you know to register for our events via the GSS Canvas Page, using this direct link.
Faculty and staff – we encourage you to attend our networking session from 1-2pm in BTSU 308. If you would like further details, please reach out to [email protected]!
