Cobbs Creek Foundation June Newsletter
Academic Bridge Summer Camp:
Cobbs Creek Foundation's Academic Bridge Program is back this summer! This year, the program will be a full-day, two-week camp designed to help bridge the academic gap that many students experience due to summer break. This program will support over 65 children by providing creative math and literacy programs as well as social-emotional learning time. This program goes beyond traditional math and literacy by incorporating the expertise of Cosmic Writers, a local nonprofit partner that provides accessible creative writing programming helping young writers develop strong communication skills, strengthen their creative thinking abilities, and become intrinsically motivated to write. Additionally, we will have two teachers from each school working with us to provide support if needed, helping create a truly immersive and dynamic learning environment by creating exciting ways to work on math skills and other literacy skills. During the mornings, the camp focuses on creative mathematics and literacy, engaging the young minds in innovative problem-solving techniques and fostering a love for reading and writing. In the afternoons, the emphasis shifts to social-emotional learning. Through various interactive activities, the camp helps children build essential life skills, such as empathy, resilience, and effective communication. By combining academic programming with a nurturing environment, the Cobbs Creek Foundation's Academic Bridge Program will ensure that every child leaves the camp having had fun and being excited about learning!

High School Senior Internships:
Cobbs Creek Foundation hosted eight seniors in from Harriton High School, Shipley School, and Friends Central for three weeks of learning and volunteering. These seniors spent 30 hours a week volunteering and supporting Cobbs Creek area nonprofits and elementary schools. On Mondays, time was spent discussing the context of our volunteering, focusing on an educational framework about the impact of poverty as it relates to housing and food insecurity, education, health and addiction, and additionally racial injustices.

The rest of the week, these seniors volunteered in two area nonprofits: Multicultural Community Family Services at 69th Street and St. Barnabas Mission Community Center, working in their food pantry. These high school seniors also spent time during the week in local elementary schools working in classrooms and with after-school tutoring programs for 1st-4th graders focusing on STEM projects and math support.

It was an exceptional three weeks for all involved, and these outstanding seniors brought their learning, compassion, and work ethic to each place they went. These wonderful seniors understood that they were the ones who benefited, learning about all the assets that exist and the numerous ways they could add value to this community.

We are grateful for their passion and commitment to the Cobbs Creek community!
