Post-Awards Fashion Event

Eco-friendly fashion leaders Clementina Martinez-Masarweh and Dr. Karen Lau Jones hosted a post-awards event to support sustainable fashion

Members and award attendees donated their red carpet outfit to be upcycled for a future red carpet!

While attendees filmed interviews, eco-friendly companies helped young celebrities see how to lead the conversation in sustainable fashion!

Learn more about why eco-friendly fashion is so important!

Fighting Fast Fashion

Special thanks to DNA Threads and Eco Fashion Dolls and all partners, sponsors and participants who forwarded this important conversation!

San Diego Comic Con

Major festivals like Cannes, Sundance, Tribeca, etc. see a host parties and activities every year outside the official event.

Celebrities take advantage of the world's press being "all in one place" to do publicity appearances and network

Lions Tigers & Bears, Southern California's only true exotic animal sanctuary invited Academy Members & Award Winners to "party with cats" at San Diego Comic-Con International

With a red carpet, green screen, 360 motion camera and actual adoptable cats (!!), attendees were invited to interview about working with new technologies in VFX instead of live animal actors.

The social campaign "Exotic Cats don't make good pets - Adopt a domestic" targeted ending the illegal trade of exotic animals for stock animal actors.

Meet the Entertainment Bear

Special thanks to Lions Tigers & Bears and all attendees!

WHAT TO DO NOW

What an exciting night at the 2024 Awards Show!

Host Neal McDonough brought warmth and starpower to honor the 44th and 45th Classes.

Many attendees thanked him for supporting their special night, and that love can keep going...

1) Thank your presenters and host. Entertainment Professionals who are happy to support young stars are your first circle of colleagues that can provide insight, direction, introductions and advice.

2024 Cast

2) Update your bio. An Academy acknowledgement "literally" enters before you do (i.e. "Grammy-nominated musician Kyle..." or "Emmy-award winning actor Curtis") ... so update your bio, social media and marketing materials with your accolade. Let others know you are already respected (and celebrated!) by the Entertainment Industry, and they should take you seriously!

3) Connect with fellow nominees from your category and create a closer Industry friendship. Even if you didn't win, these are your future collaborators and castmates. You shared the same moment of excitement being recognized together as a category, so start with that common ground and make a deeper connection.

4) Share your newest win or nomination with your past producers and other Industry contacts. It's a great reason to touch base and reconnect. Thank them for helping you gain experience that has led to a nomination/win. Just staying on radar with friendly Entertainment Professionals often can lead to more work and more opportunities.

5) Ask your manager and publicist how they can help to use your win for even more publicity support. Can this be leveraged for interviews, press or even appearances? Ask them to update your EPK and other marketing materials or pitches. (If they didn't attend to support your big night, you also might inquire why not, and make sure your work relationship is still on track)

6) Reach out to those you thanked (or were going to thank) in your acceptance speech. If they were not in attendance, it's important they realize how impactful they've been in your budding career. Emphasize what they have done for you, and deepen a good industry connection.

We celebrate all that you have achieved, and we can't wait to see what you yet will do!

Shine On!

HOW TO WIN AWARDS

Are you ready to go again?

With submissions now open for the 46th Youth Oscars, it's worth reviewing just how to win.

The Young Artist Academy™ is very proud to be the only youth awards structured just like the Oscars, Emmys and Grammys.

Learning the process will strengthen your likelihood of being nominated by the larger awards of merit.

(As a fun reminder, you can see the process of submissions-nomination-voting in the animation How It Works on our official site)

Submit more than once.

This works. Besides being noticed by a nomination committee, you have multiple shots at showing different facets to your artistry.

For instance, in the Young Artist Academy Awards, could you submit yourself for the category of “Commercials”, “Writer” or “Influencer”?

Many times a single project can also qualify for multiple categories; the Emmys and Oscars have categories for “Lighting” “Design” and “Makeup”.

So don’t cut yourself short and submit just once. A quality project will shine in many ways!

Be a Member.

Whether its for the Recording Academy (Grammys), Television Academy (Emmys), Academy of Motion Pictures (Oscars) or Young Artist Academy (Youth Oscars) - become a member and get close to the Academy!

You’ll be able to vote, and also will be invited to meet other Academy Members who will be voting on your category. When they get to know you, they will naturally take a keener interest when they see your nomination.

Read the rules.

During the 2018 Youth Oscars, presenter Kristen Castillo was president of the PSW Emmy Awards. She said “Some projects are in fact really good, but don’t get nominated because someone didn’t read the rules and submit it properly. ... We won’t tell them why they didn’t get nominated - they just won’t get nominated.”

Learn to read and follow the rules of an awards ceremony and follow their expectations.

Show up and attend.

Some awards still require voting in-person. Others - like certain BAFTA honors - require an in-person acceptance.

Consistently showing up demonstrates respect for an academy and increases the likelihood they will put you forward for special events, interviews and publicity opportunities - all increasing the likelihood you will become noticed by the Academy voters (...who determine winners!)

Some major awards (like “the” Oscars!) require attendance to participate in certain things like voting. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences states in their complete rules that ”attending and supporting in-person whenever possible helps to maximize all elements of nominations, voting and winning”

At any rate, it’s always good to “be there”!

Awards give an artist otherwise unattainable legitimacy, publicity and negotiating power. Awards are one of the strongest forms of "job security" for a professional artist.

With determination and development, may you continue to deepen your career and aptitude in the Entertainment Industry.

We are always here to help you Shine On!
