After nine years of service to Harper College, Dr. Marwick will be retiring. With great respect and admiration, the Experimental Classroom, located in the Academy, will be dedicated in Judy's honor. Please join us on Wednesday, May 8 for a ceremony followed by a reception as we wish Judy all the best.

Registration is now open for summer Graduate Equivalency Courses (GECs)! Learn more about the three courses: Carrying the (Cognitive) Load for Students, Teaching Online Successfully: Create, and Teaching Online Successfully: Facilitate.

Have you ever wondered how best to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in your STEM courses? In this workshop, faculty will study different teaching strategies and scaffolding methods designed to assist and encourage those students. It will also encourage engagement and success for students of all backgrounds.

Celebrate our beautiful Earth this April during Earth Week! The week begins with a Mindfulness Nature Walk on Monday, April 22. Then join us for additional Earth-themed events around campus including a local foods and farmers showcase and a DIY succulent craft in the Library.

Reflections on Student Success
Submitted by Olivia Barker, World Languages

I was a student for so long I thought I'd never forget what it was like to be one. Fading memory aside, I've also had to acknowledge that my experience isn't the same as everyone else's. Understanding my students and that they may have invisible struggles is an area of my work that I had not considered prior to teaching, but it has become one of my more important roles.

I recently taught Spanish 101 and had a student walk in the first day completely disengaged. I'm ashamed to say, my initial interpretation of her affect was apathy.
