Apply for the OER Transformation Grant
To reduce textbook and course material costs primarily through the adoption, adaptation and creation of free Open Educational Resources (OER), Harper College has allocated $45,000 of strategic plan funding for OER Transformation Grants. These grants are intended to support faculty efforts to reduce the costs associate with textbooks and course materials while maintaining high quality course design and instruction. If you are interested in replacing costly textbooks and course materials for your course(s) with OER or low-cost/no-cost alternatives for students, this grant opportunity is for you.

Reminder: Update Your Syllabus
The Library and Success Services are now located in Building F. Please update your syllabi to reflect the new locations. The Harper College Syllabus Template and all related resources on the Harper College Syllabus webpage have been updated to reflect these location changes.

New! Blackboard Drop-in Sessions
The Academy is offering drop-in training and technical support in Blackboard on selected Tuesdays (12 p.m.-2 p.m.) and Thursdays (4 p.m.-6 p.m.) during the fall semester, facilitated by Karen Herold. Each session will begin with a short training on a specific topic, but feel free to bring any questions and issues you would like resolved. No registration required.

Submit Your Video(s) for Captioning
Access & Disability Services provides in-class speech-to-text captioning and video captioning as part of their disability and accommodation services. The Academy is complementing this critical service by supporting captioning and transcription for online videos ahead of an accommodation request. This effort seeks to help faculty move their courses towards complete accessibility while also providing universal benefits for all learners.

During the 2018-2019 school year, the Academy staff will continue to work with faculty to offer programming and services to enhance teaching and learning across campus with a focus on helping students successfully complete courses to advance in their education plans.

As we enter into a new semester, we may want to consider research exploring the relationship between empathy and success from Dr. Katherine R. Rowell of Sinclair College.
