Alumni excellence was on full display and a celebratory mood filled the room at Pier 21 in Halifax on April 20, 2023 when members of the Acadia community came together for this year’s Alumni Awards Dinner. More than 200 guests gathered to honour and applaud this year’s recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award, Dr. Susan Crouse (’85), and Outstanding Young Alumni Award, Ms. Shannon Boldon (’13). Acadia Alumni Association Annual General Meeting slated for Saturday, May 13
The Annual General Meeting of the Acadia Alumni Association will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. ADT. This will be a hybrid meeting: constituents can participate in person at Alumni Hall (512 Main Street, Wolfville), by video conference, or by phone.
If you would like to attend the meeting, please REGISTER by May 5. Participants will receive an e-mail confirmation with login details prior to the meeting.

The sunny city of Winnipeg saw an intimate group of excited, inquisitive alumni gather on Thursday, April 6, 2023 to hear updates about the University and the Acadia Alumni Association from Executive Director, Alumni Affairs Oonagh Proudfoot (’93, ’06). Questions were asked about current enrolment numbers and building upgrades and, in true Acadia style, incredible connections were made regardless of grad year, program of study or route each person took to get to Winnipeg. On May 14 and 15, 2023, more than 800 graduates from Acadia University’s four faculties – Arts, Pure and Applied Science, Professional Studies, and Theology – will receive their diplomas and certificates, joining Acadia’s more than 40,000 alumni worldwide. Acadia will also confer six honorary degrees on individuals who have distinguished themselves in arts and public service. Learn more

Acadia excited to add more Indigenous, Black faculty through cluster hiring
Acadia University will add three Mi'kmaw or Indigenous scholars and three African Nova Scotian or African Canadian scholars to its ranks through a newly established cluster hiring initiative. A result of a Memorandum of Agreement between the University and the Faculty Association, the hiring plan is part of Acadia’s strategic priority to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion. New research improves access
to pulmonary rehabilitation
for women with COPD
Women in Nova Scotia with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) will soon be able to breathe a little easier, thanks to new research by Dr. Carley O'Neill of Acadia’s School of Kinesiology. To fund the research, Research Nova Scotia has awarded Dr. O’Neill a New Health Investigator Grant of $100,000 over two years. Learn more

The BMO Lecture Series returned to Acadia University on Thursday, March 23, 2023 with The Honourable Bill Morneau as the featured speaker. A good crowd packed into the K. C. Alumni Fund gifts support Acadia student awards
|
|
Acadia University's Department of Athletics announced the 2022-23 Major Award winners and team award winners at the annual Fred G. Kelly Awards Night on April 5, 2023. The Acadia Alumni Athletics Awards were also highlighted during the evening, with Sydney Zakutney (volleyball, '23) and Haley MacDonald (basketball, '20, '21, '23) each being honoured for their contributions to the Acadia community. The awards, valued at $5,000, are for female athletes only and the Director of Athletics considers the following criteria when making their recommendations. Preference is to have the awards directed toward two different women’s varsity sports and recipients will demonstrate or possess the following: rigorous minimum academic standard; a significant contribution to the teams’ success (e.g. team leadership); a high-quality student-athlete and human being who represents Acadia in a quality manner, both on and off the court; the student-athlete demonstrates financial need and represents equity-seeking populations. Constitutional Amendments
In accordance with Article 21 of the Constitution of the Associated Alumni of Acadia University, the Board of Directors is providing notice of proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Association. The Board of Directors of the Association unanimously approved the proposed amendments at the February 4, 2023 meeting of the Board. The proposed amendments to the Constitution will be recommended to the membership for approval at the May 13, 2023 Annual General Meeting.

Acadia Alumni Isaac Chipman Award for Excellence in Alumni Service
The Acadia Alumni Isaac Chipman Award for Excellence in Alumni Service recognizes an alum of Acadia University who has had a significant positive impact on Acadia and its alumni. The award focuses on a recipient who has provided consistent support in the form of time, effort and resources to the services and promotion of the advancement of the University and its alumni.

McDonald, Shortt named Outstanding Athletes of the Year
Acadia University's Department of Athletics has announced the 2022-23 Major Award winners and team award winners at the annual Fred G. Kelly Awards Night. Fourth-year swimmer Gordon Shortt (Simcoe, Ont.) and fifth-year basketball Axewoman Haley McDonald (Port Williams, N.S.) were named The Athenaeum Male Athlete of the Year and the Jean Marsh Female Athlete of the Year respectively.
